Shit, I feel like a drunk now. I drink every day after work. I never really get drunk but just get a decent glow that helps me get some sleep. I got multiple sclerosis so it helps with the pain. The doctors used to give me handfulls of valium and baclophen. I stopped that so i wouldn't become a junk...

I should post pictures of my scars so newbies can use it as a real world tale of how to be safe. I think that's a capital idea. And while I am sorry for your troubles, it's not the Darwin you get...it's the Richard Pryor... Hahaha Good point. However, I wasn't running around screaming. I was ...

Ya, sadly I've got perminent scars on my feet and legs, two of my toes lost hunks of meat even. It's the only time I was greatful that I have multiple sclerosis. The lack of feeling in some parts of my body kept the pain to a minimum. As I was putting out the flames, there were thoughts of web posti...

Never place foreshots on the floor in a mason jar and light it to see the pretty blue invisible flame, forgetting that you lite it, then later walk past it and accidently kick it, splashing the invisiable flaming goodness all over your leg (no shorts) and feet (sandles only no socks). It makes for a...

Adding Water To Strip Run

I've read in a few places where after doing a strip run, the distiller will add an equal portion of water to the distillate before running it through in a reflux. I have never seen anyone actually detail why they do this though. Is this some form of cleaning up the strip so that it is more pure when...

It sounds about as easy as I was thinking then. Sometimes when it's so easy I wonder if I'm missing something important. Guess not.

How do you do the messuring of ingredients for large washes? Is it as simple as just multiplying the regular 5gallon solution by whatever size you want the wash to be?

Large Mash

Has anyone done very large mashes?

I've come into 3, 50 gallon food grade barrels and was thinking about building up some big sugar washes. Are there any issues that come with making washes that are larger than the stanard 20L that most seem to do?

Costs

I'm really wanting to convert all my auto's to ethanol but in my testing on my still I can't get the cost down anywhere near what gasoline costs.

Does anyone have a method for getting costs to what gasoline is or lower?

Insulated Pot

Is anyone insulating their pot to try and keep more of the heat in the pot? I was thinking of wrapping my pot so that I can get to temp better and maintain it without using so much propane. If it works for water heaters there must some benifit in doing it on a still.

Hey one other thing - the rates depend on the amount of heat you apply to the system also. Obviously if you have the heat barely on, then very little vapor will be produced, therefore very little refluxed condensate will be produced. I've read in various places that you really want a whole lot of i...

Perfect response. This is exactly what I was looking for in an answer. I appreciate it. My runs are really good and clean, I was asking so I can understand the process better. I have thus far done it by-the-book and taken off the 50-100ML just because people say so, without actually understanding t...

So does it make sense then to have my take-off valve open as the temperature is still climbing, before 172??? And then toss out that first 100ML? Or let it reflux an hour or so and then do the slow one drop per second that the documentation on this site states? The problem I am having is this,, I ha...

Quick Temperature Question

If the nasties (methanol) boils off at 147F. Is it then a good idea to get the still to 147 and hold it there for a while and collect off all the Methanol and toss it,,, THEN, bring the temp up to 172 before collecting the goodies??? Thinking this would negate the need to collect the first 50+ once ...
