Re:
I used rainwater from my new tank in the backyard for fermenting and cutting spirits. I figured it'd be the cleanest, purest water i had access to. About two months into my rum ageing i noticed strands of algae coming off a bottle i was about to give a friend, so i went and checked the aging flagon...

Hey all, I just wanted to thank everyone who gave me constructive info. I thought I'd update this for anyone "new" who is reading through all this. I'll let you all know what I now do for making rum: -Keep it simple (I ended up tossing the thumper and running a simple s/s pot with as much ...

If it was me,, id make a biger still for stripping, then use that one for a spirits run. Perfect idea ! Thanx As long as that suits you tho! I know you want more booze, but remember, you have a nice little still there. Maybe another fermenter will get you to where you wanna be? I'd just hate for yo...

Re: First still :)
The original reason i didnt read about the still right away(referring to hooklines post) is because i was just busy monitoring my washes' because they were almost over heating, sitting right about 34-35, they have since cooled down to about 28-30c after i filled the bathtub with water and added som...

Full Frontals
On an aquarium site that I am a member of, we often have a "full frontal" thread. Its just where people take a snap of the equipment they are currently using. On the aquarium site of course, it was just a front shot of their tanks. I dont know if it will take off here but as we all like st...

you submerge it in water so absolutely no air can leak in and also to let you know that its fermenting because you will see co2 bubbling up. and i cant find any airlocks near by b/c i am at school. the final verdict on this wash will be decided tomorrow. it should be done by then. Hey Cap'n, still looks interesting. You got any copper in the vapor path? I do now! I put in as much as I could. I rolled some thin sheet and slid it inside the top of the boiler tube. Then i removed the s/s tube that went down into the thumper and replaced it with a copper one. Not much copper I k...

Hi Guys, 2 bags of dextrose which weigh about 1.8kg each, a small bag of brown sugar around a kilo or slightly more from memory Far out! They could halve the price of the product and cut shipping by half also if they just sent the other ingredients and told people which sugar to buy locally. I gues...

Hi People, Well i have bought this kit once and while it makes nice rum, i prefer as most do to make my own - 4L Molasses, 1kg Brown Sugar and 3 Kg White sugar. These stuff taste as good after a week on oak as the kit so for the price i would make up your own brew or follow someone elses the kits a...

Re: Wanna call it quits....
You using all that in one 25 litre ferment? That is roughly what I use for a 60 litre ferment (with raw sugar instead of brown and dextrose sugars, but otherwise much the same). How long are your ferments taking? Use half that rate of ingredients, or double your ferment size, and it should make a p...

Here it is. As i stated, the thumper (which was originally designed as a slobber box) looks small but it seems to do the trick.

Wow, you go to work and look what happens huh :D Damn it; lose the sugar completely. All you need is fancy molasses. Make sure it isn't suphured, and don't bother with blackstrap. No nutrients, no nothing. And get some copper in that still head. Lots of copper. Learning to make cuts is always fine a...

hey cap don't call it quits just yet. from my noob view i agree with all the above with one other thought. try a wash without any added white sugar. from my limited exp that's where that bad flavor may be comming from. i hear other guys can still it out but i couldn't.
