Re: first still design and feedback.

Let me know if you get stuck on winding the coil, I have one or two spare I made up as I brought a 25m coil and figured I may as well make a few. They're not too bad to make, just take your time. I found "Hook's tutorial" very good to follow. Where about's in NZ are you?? Goody luck! Hoody

Re: Beginner Q: what to do with a Still Spirits Reflux Still

As far as a "mod" goes, you could all way's extend the tower (ie, a stainless or copper pipe) in between the boiler and reflux head and pack it with some scrubber's. Should help lift the abv for little cost, There is some pic's of that done floating around on here somewhere?? If you detune...

Re: Beginner Q: what to do with a Still Spirits Reflux Still

Sound's like your doing most things right there. Check out the "new distiller's reading lounge", Kiwi has written a good post there about getting the best out of these stills. As for the % of alcohol you are getting out, it could quiet possibly be the stills limitation's. If you are consid...

What is it you are wanting to measure?? Vapour temp? Distillate temp?? Surface temp on the column?? Accuracy will vary depending on what it is. Would be a handy tool for quick temp reading's so long as it's only the surface your interested in reading. I personally wouldn't use it for trying to measu...

Nice work moodie!
As far as the plate spacing goes, I think your's will be fine. I looked at alot of other people's out there and took a bit of a average and spaced mine 3/4" apart. I know of other's using a 1" space with no drama.

Re: Bokakob 2" under construction.

Look like brass to me. If so might pay to do a bit of reading on using brass in a still. Some are of the opinion it is ok (with "pickleing"), while other's say it is a no no.

If they are copper, let me know were you found them, I want some!
