Re: Compiling a kit for Gin only distilling

Second link didn’t open for me.
But my kit includes:
1. a scale for measuring botanicals
2. a Krups grinder to crush botanicals
3. since my recipe is for 2 gallons I have a two gallon jar to store during Macerating.

Re: Thick tape for gasket (link)

That stuff looks interesting. On my 5 gallon pot still with a large opening I made my gasket using the following method:

Works great but after two years I had to replace and make a new one.

If the answers to the questions asked are positive, that is a good price for a 5 gallon barrel. I am guessing if it’s American Oak it’s made in the US but probably shouldn’t make that assumption.

Re: Bushman’s 2 Gallon Gin Recipe

I found that a small bottle of Rose’s lime Juice poured into a empty 5th bottle and then filled the rest of the way with gin Bushman, how many ozs of Rose’s are you using per fifth? 12 fl oz. I did the math and it is the exact proportions that you find on gimlet recipes. The beauty is you don’t hav...

Re: Bushman’s 2 Gallon Gin Recipe

Bushman, What size pot still did you use? I have a 25l and was thinking 7l was not enough to go with in my still. Did you dilute down at all ? I have a 5 gallon pot still I use for essential oils and to answer your question, no I ran it at 43%. I know that on the forum we recommend 40% or less and ...

Re: Googe's Goo AKA The Kale-Sugar Wash

Bushman you can freeze the kale for use later on. I have no issues with ferments using kale that had been frozen. My next thing is to air dry kale for storage and see if I can successfully ferment with that. I know, my kale is at our community garden and it’s a matter of getting to the garden. Than...

Demy in your video what did you use to hold the tube in the vise? If you look closely in the video I show of self-built supports, they have v-grooves, They are not designed specifically for copper pipes but for iron ones, despite this they work well. To avoid scoring, a thin layer of rubber (eg air...

1/2 way through the run and it looks like it will be a higher yield than my first run. I have lots of kale left but not sure I will get another run in this fall as there is a lot of winterizing and projects but hope to use some more of the kale before it goes bad.

Yummy I thought it was you but it might of been someone else during a chat on the CCSC site. To answer your question I am guessing one week maceration would be plenty. I left it 2.5 because I was gone one week to my fractional ownership condo and not around. I didn’t think leaving it would make a di...

Re: Bushman’s 2 Gallon Gin Recipe

Yummy ...... does think the five week rest is important. I typically like to mix a G&T right after proofing. It gives me a feel for the recipe. But, I do try to get 4 to 5 weeks of aging in before adding it to the bar stock (unless I’m suffering from a drought!). Man, I do love a summer G&T. One ba...

Yummy doesn’t think you need to wait two weeks but he does think the five week rest is important. I would say tasting it anytime during the five weeks will tell you what you want to know. Again this is my first attempt at gin so I am also experimenting.
