Re: First spirit run of first all Grain bourbon

Congratulations, when I first started I would taste test with my wife women (at least my wife) had a better sense than I did. I collected a bunch of pint jars that had measurements in 2, 4, 6, 8, and 12 oz increments. I never used smaller jars just collected less when getting close to the hearts and...

Re: Cigars - what are you smoking

I’ve smoked two cigars in my life. The first one as a teenager I had my dads muscle car, I had been drinking and hit a patch of ice on the road. Did a 360 lucky I stayed on the highway but puked my guts out. Fast forward to 30 years later and I smoked a cigar on the balcony of our cruise ship with m...

Happy Birthday Nerdybrewer, hope you have a great day! Also it is Mulekicker birthday and although he has not been on the forum for years I remember back in 2010 or 2011 I bought my first controller from him as he was making and selling them to members. If you felt you had enough experience he even ...

Re: 3rd attempt to post, new member

Welcome, all first posts must be made in the Welcome Center thread and accepted before posting elsewhere. If you made a post in the welcome on someone else’s welcome post it probably wasn’t accepted as well. Looks like you are all good to go now. Enjoy the forum.

Re: New Members First Post

Welcome, MooseMan hit the nail on the head, you are starting the same way I did when I first got started. I decided to build my very first still with very little experience soldering so I chose to build it starting with the easiest part to solder first. Enjoy the journey it’s a great hobby.

Re: Filling a second 5 gallon barrel

Google solera method for aging. You can use barrels or jars, I used a combination as I didn’t have 3 barrels at the time I started using the method. It’s a rotating method so you never fully empty a barrel unless you take a break from distilling.

Not answering your question but I like the hot water heating elements as they have easy to source connectors to mount.

Welcome, as mentioned we have a large membership from the PNW. Nice introduction, 4 months should give you plenty of time to study but nothing replaces the hands on experience. Good luck and enjoy the journey!

Welcome, if you stick around I bet you will out grow your current still and go for something a bit larger. The 3 gallon will work well for gin from neutrals collected. Enjoy the journey!

Re: Upgrading my Solar Panel

The solar panel on my boat is 10 years old, my next project is to change it out for a larger and more efficient panel. I am also adding a solar charger controller. My boat has 6 batteries, 4 dedicated to the house. I want to be anchored out for several days without relying on shore power. So far I ...

Re: Vm/LM head

Karstr. I was able to pull 95% from a 2” column that had 36 inches of copper mesh packing. I had to run really slow to do it. Did you run a VM head? Is there a difference in what kind of head u use, and the speed of the offtake? Takeoff speed certainly does matter, in addition to power level and re...
