Some very good input on this .. I do appreciate each and every reply.. I think acfixer made a great point that hit home .. I will be chasing this bypassing from now if I don't stop it now .. So I have decided to solder them and be done with it .. I have been taking photos .. Ill post them .. soon......

so much valuable input.. I think the soldering might be the way I go .. I read every thread I can find on how to do this effectively .. my plan will be to make soft solder ring and slide in down with the tree, heat it from outside.. I have the down comers silver soldered in just in case I needed to ...

Ben , I like that Idea .. I never thought of that .. Is there any reason this wouldn't work ? My down comers are sitting 5/8 (15.88 mm) inches above the plates . so they would have to sit that far below the sight glass. something like thin copper flashing maybe ?

that may be the way i need to go , I can flush clean it when needed .. and It is what it is , Im not taking away any plates from the build.. and if it will be more efficient then that def something to consider .. im looking for the thread you speak of Yummyrun

all are some excellent suggestions and comments they are all much appreciated .. I also thought about the idea of a little soft solder on edge of plate and filing to a closer fit ?

I appreciate the replies and suggestions , One thing I want to mention I'm not talking about a lot of gap but gap none the less .. my concern is not being able to hold liquid on the plate should I be concerned with small Gap ?

Thank you for all the info guys all that has replied .. Bill you are correct on my issue the gaps are different throughout.. Im getting them close as possible.. the down comers are 3/4 (Dans build) no cups how you feel about those ? also Im reading the link info you posted ...

The gap im talking about you can see with light .. but not nearly enough to let the drill but pass that im drilling the plate with 1/16 (0.062”) Bit . I have been working on a 4 inch build following Dans build and with his help (Thanks Dan) , The only real concern I have is the plate gap to the column wall . I know the more its sealed the better, I get it but how much is to much gap in your opinion ? I did cut the plates and spin them up in drill ...

In my opinion the thinner the copper that the vapor passes thru the better the heat transfer to the water , least that has always been my take on it when building such condensers . I commonly use 1/2 thin as I can find inside 1.25 slightly over kill I know but I dont have to worry so much about gett...

elec tape.. I used the insulation on most all of the build for protection on most pieces, I can always remove it and still have my build intact dent free :D

Dont think I have any more pics .. Im taking several along the way on this 3 inch model.. it has sight glass also and little different design.. yes I have done plumbing for last 20 years ther bouts.. hvac , service tech . guess you learn to plumb after few hundred compressors .. :lol:

I have not had any pooling issues .. the rig does require it to be level...
