Re: Glass Marbles for Reflux Column Structured Packing

i removed my SS scrubbies today and filled with 1/2" plain glass marbles.
running a Birdwatchers tomorrow.
interested to see if the output speed changes, as some have suggested. i have only run scrubbies in the past.
2" slant plate. 3' of packing, 8" space, then the plates and coil.

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe

you add a clam shell to get the PH closer to 7?

i never had an issue with the PH after the lime or lemon. yeast still works.
i have a water softener. we have hard water here.

i never thought about doing that. since i never had an issue with an acidic wash.

parker and swedgelock are great fittings.

you need to find someone who works in the pharm, chemical or food industry.
much cheaper.

i feel it brings me "up" faster. then the plateau. i can stay there for a long time. once i finish a 750ml bottle, it's good night. no much of a hangover, just dehydrated. this is a birdwatchers at 40% it is a much different drunk than store bought. to me and friends. we all have the same ...

i wouldn't venture into tails either.

it's a wash for neutral.

use the heads and tails to start campfires.

i put the water in the coil first, then into the liebig.
it just takes the temp down around 110*F. but that depends on how much water flow you have.

i put a 2" x 3/4" bell reducer on top.
i drilled two 1/4" holes in it, which the coil feed and return run through. i soldered the coil to the cap.
you have support for the coil and are still open to vent.

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe

let her be.
i have had washes done in 7 days, some 20 days.

sometimes the yeast is happy, sometimes not so much.
but those slow and long ferments end up giving more finished product, for me.
i know the yeast will die off at a certian %, but i get swings of 900ml-1600ml of 95%. on the same size wash.

Re: Centrifuge? would it work???

i think a Wiped Film Evaporator would work. WFE for short you control the wall temp there is a rotor with wiper blades spinning inside you inject the wash into the vessel. this will sling the wash against the heated walls. by controlling the wall temp, you could control what is being evaporated. the...

before you place the reducer on top, drill holes on each side of the 3/4 run your coil tails through the holes. solder them in place. this will give you a clear 3/4 hole. from this hole, if you go into the tails too far or forget to add the heads and tails from the last batch, you can put a funnel o...

i have floaded my boka also. i have found that once you feel the vapor making it's way up the column, cut back on the heat. you can feel the progression of the vapor as it works it's way through the packing. once my column is heated to the plates, i cut the burner back to just a little simmer. old f...

i have tig welded copper before. it is much like aluminum. but you need even more heat to get it to puddle. i used plain copper fittings and 12ga electrical wire for the filler rod. did it, just to say i did it. i think solders are more energy efficent for sealing. it takes a lot of power to weld co...
