Re: Fleishmans yeast question
I have been recommended to use active dry yeast, I was in the local wholesale club (BJs) shopping and came across Fleishmans Instand dry yeast in a one pound block for under $5 any thoughts or experiences? Going to use it for a sugar wash in the T&T section. It works great. I have had consisten...

My application for small AFP was approved. My still is registered and I almost feel safe, almost. I have permission to use my pot still as a stripping still then reduce to 40% to run through the reflux. It was much easier than I thought. I got a lot of help with the application from the NRC special...

Re: Achieving 95%
Ethanol is hydroscopic. If your area is humid, it may be absorbing water from the air. Try slowing down your run. The temp will self regulate as different alcohols cook off. go super slow for a higher purity. adjust your temp down to 1-2 drips/second and don't touch it. the temp will raise on its o...

Re: under optimum conditions for 20% how much sugar per gall
To get to 20% you will need approx 3.2 lbs of sugar per gallon! You can measure the presents of remaining sugar several ways...an sg hydrometer beginning and ending reading is the easiest . Find yeast that will go to 20% is possible, but hard to get all the conditions right to make it happen. Or Yo...

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe
I've heard/ read regular bakers yeast is gross and shouldnt be used in brewing. Does this not apply to distilling? Or is there a noticeable difference in quality between it and brewers yeast? Standard bakers yeast is fine, people here (myself included) have been using it for years. You just want to...
