Re: My new Liebig.

Some of you guys who've been here forever don't need this info but for someone who's new to this and trying to understand all of the ins and outs statements like this are gold. LoL I couldn't for the life of me figure out why winding a small wire around the tube would be enough of a heat sink to ma...

Re: Wineos Plain Ol Sugar Wash

If pH drops below 3.8 - 4 you'll start seeing problems... Adding oyster shells into you wash can help because the shells won't dissolve if pH is in the normal range but will dissolve and adjust pH if the wash goes acidic... Great tip. Off topic: Also can be used in aquariums the same way just need ...

I use an aquarium heater but indirectly. Put my bucket in a big cooler then fill with water and heat the water with the aquarium heater.
Why do you use the heat indirectly?

Just remember air is thinner than liquid so if only a small amount gets through and it's not under pressure the liquid may not seep through the thread

Sampling

Guys need your help. I can't remember where I read the best way to do taste sampling from your run. Was it centre out either side or start, end alternating then moving toward centre.

Also would 40% or 30% be the best proof to sample at.

I take off the too layer that is quite pale. You'll notice when you remove it the bottom layer is bright yellow. Then just top up with the amount you removed.

Re: My UJSSM run output rate

Thanks guys. Other than me probably wasting a bit left in there the other thing is I probably ran it a tad too slow.

Thanks for the feedback will tweak it a bit next time I run.

Cheers KD

Re: My UJSSM run output rate

Just to clarify I added a total of 12L of 60% to 12L of water so ran a 30% charge..sorry if that wasn't clear.

I've got a 50l keg with 2inch column up to a lebig that is about 1000mm long.

I think mine would of been around 1500-2000w

That's great NZ. How are you going to age it?

I haven't blended mine yet. I always get nervousness around fking it up and besides I have the damn flu so it's playing with my taste buds.

Aussie spring water

Guys I have access to a natural spring that just continually flows out of the side of a hill. When I taste the water it's a little tingly on the tongue. Would this be ok to use in my wash or would it be too mineralised? Would it add flavour profiles to the distillate with minerals carrying through?

My UJSSM run output rate

Yeah my run went for 8 hrs. I was drained. It was in my pot still I charged my still with approx 12L of 60%. Maybe I did run it a bit slow, only because it was a spirit run, but I ended up with about 7L of spirt run ranging from 80 to 40% and then it really slowed down so I stopped. Does that make s...

So will it mean I'll loose some of the carryover flavours because the proof is so high?

In which case I'll have to mix tails to get deep corny flavour.

My UJSSM run output rate

Hi guys can you tell me if I'm running my setup with my pot still and Liebig too quick. I'm running a spirit run if three stripping runs at approx 30-40%. I've taken off 2l and it is still at 80%abv. I've never had 80% in my pot still. It's running approx 250ml per 20-30mins. I tried to upload a vid...

Commercial stills and copper

Guys been reading this forum for a long time and the advice is to get copper into the vapour path the allow the oxidation of sulphides.

So how do the commercial distilleries do this in their SS setups. Just watched a doco and they only had SS.

I agree with you all

I had some cornflake whiskey and it tasted barbaric off the still. Threw it in a bottle for 8 months and the flavour profile changed. It's not bad but I'm now trialling UJSSM
