Re: Takin a break...

Goose there was one in a country I will not mention over there that was found and destroyed by the head shed, I heard it was operational for awhile before they found it, the hardest part would be geting the sugar :) I could tell you some stories about the Russian pilots that operate over there, some...

Wilder, don't cut the keg, just pull the spear out (look on youtube for a video on how to do it) Running on a hotplates not going to work - sorry dude. Look at Gas or a 2200watt internal element (thats' what I use) Stay away from rubber grommets, go for flour paste \ dough. Look at scrap yards for y...

Re: First Reflex run a failure.

If he is going to build you a new column get him to do something that will work well, maybe a boka? Go for a min of 1 mtr of column that can be packed to produce reflux plus length of the condensor, get him to put a 50mm ferrule on it so you can attach it to the keg with a triclamp. Tell him you wan...

Re: First Reflex run a failure.

Seriously I feel for you, keen to start stilling, want to get up and running, impatient, want it to run well. I would be the same and have been there myself, I know it's a pain but maybe get rid of the epoxy, get rid of the lead solder, have a chat to someone who has \ had one and once you've set yo...

Re: First Reflex run a failure.

Did you get the lead solder out of it and resolder it with silver solder? If you PM rum barrel he will give you some tips on running it.

Ring the fella that sold it to you would be another option? I have been told he's happy to have a chat about running it. He would give you some pointers.

Re: Can you distill before fermentation is complete

If it's not 100% done you can "burn" the remaining sugar, causes a caramel smell and a subtle tast of caramel, I did it by accident and the wife and her friends love it. I've only done it once though - she still has about 4 liters left :). It's her special occassions stash.

Re: First Reflex run a failure.

There are a few of these things kicking around from ebay, PM rumbarrel he had one for a little while. The major problem you have is the length of the cooling colum, it's the design that makes it hard to run. As I mentioned have a chat to rumbarrel he as had experience running one.

So much difference between US cops and UK/Aus/NZ cops. The first will take you down and make it stick. The latter will put up with endless lip and then the system lets it go. I see it as winners and loosers. The UK/Aus/NZ sample appear to be loosers. The society has to pay the price for repeat offe...

Welcome aboard, lots of Brisbane residents on here, how much is an airstill? Save your money, I'll lend you a still head (I build them) if you like (for a month not three years) :) if you can get a keg.

We really need to have a get together in Brisbane for all the members.

PM me if you like.

Re: Funny Taste and Smell - Neutral

I was going to say it'ld be your water or you have some heads\tails in there, if your water is filtered as you say only leaves the heads\tails. Yes you could redistill it :) When you took the ABV was it done when it was still warm? You may have a reading of 95% when it's warm but it'll be lower once...

Re: SEVENEL's Progress Page

If worst came to worse, get a grinder cut off the ferrrule that is full of epoxy and weld another one on ($15.00). I make condensor controlled stills out of stainless steel which give 95% and Austin does anything you want in copper but I don't think anyone is going to do a build for $200 - $250 for ...

Re: SEVENEL's Progress Page

Sorry, didn't read your whole post, that looks like the ebay still. One reason you are getting the fluctuating temps is because of the design, the water jacket covers the whole length of the column. If you got the still of ebay he uses lead in them i.e lead poisoning, this has come up before in othe...

Re: Wife of 15 years wants to separate. How do I survive thi

I think in situations like this everyone needs to take a step back, couple of deep breaths, clear the mind (as much as possible anyway) give each other space (one of you go somewhere for a week and do something you enjoy - recharge the batteries) Then come back and when you see the other person sit ...

Re: coil winding made easier

Hey bushman, Personally for me, never used salt or anything else to fill the coil - personally I don't think there is any need and it takes ages to do. I think a lot of people make it out to be a art and something that is hard to do, a 6 inch coil should be able to be wound in no more than 20 min (i...

Not the prettiest coil I've done, took about 10 mins. The end is loose as per the discussion in the condensor contolled still thread to reduce effectiveness a little. Will post pics of using the knee to guide the coil.

The other thing you need to look at is if she has issues sometimes there is nothing you can do about it and you have to accept that, sometimes you can't control stuff and no matter what you do you may get an outcome you do'nt want.

coil winding made easier

When winding a coil just now I had the tube at about thigh height, as the copper was being wound on I had both hands on the tube and then used my knee to guide on the copper. Soooooo much easier and faster than using my hands and no sore hands after one coil. I have'nt seen anything where people hav...

I think it's like reading instructions on how to put something together, no-one ever reads them till you get to the point where you can't put it together and you have to read the instructions.

I think it's a male thing............
