Re: Basic Distilling Safety

Check your equipment carefully before each run. Make sure all the openings and pathways are not blocked, and any valves are working. Set the whole still up, including connecting the coolant system up fully and testing it, before turning on the heat source for the still. I have experienced this one ...

Re: New still

Well after a long while of procrastination I got back to completing my still. I used a 4500w stainless tank heater element in my pot for heating and a PID temperature controller with a solid state relay. I found that because the output was either on or off, even with short durations I wasn't able to...

Re: New still

Well spent some more time welding, coil winding and installing a valve in the output. Here is the rig now. The bottom of the coil is a bit over 2" from the take off due to bad measuring but too late now. When I was winding the condenser I used 1/4" tubing, filled it with water and crimped ...

Re: New still

I was going to use another foot of stainless for the condenser with clamps to fit the tri-clamp i have on the top so it's all removable. I was thinking I would make a double coil around 9" long from 1/4" or 3/8" copper tube and mount that inside my stainless tube. I have also ordered ...

New still

Well first of all this is my first post so Hi All! I have to been to this site many times and it has a ton of vital information, Thanks! I have used lab glassware to do all my distillations and got me hooked, but it's just too time consuming to get any decent amount of product, so it's time to size ...
