Re: The true story about Dutch Jenever
we distilled the grape to 95% making cuts. we watered down to 30% and put it back in the boiler. converted over to potstill mode and suspended the botanicals in the vapor stream for a vapor infused gin. don't remember the recipe off hand but it was a fairly conventional mix. the spirit had an amazin...

Did you know a "genever" should actually be made from brandywine and not from a maltwine? Huray for HD. I tried this authentic and "auld" method, and it gives truly, heavenly results. parents own a vineyard, so after I gave my stepdad the still I built for him, we made neutral f...

google ranks pages by how many other pages link to it.
so they really don't care if we see it or click on the link, they only care that the link goes unnoticed for long enough for the googlebots to save it to memory.

I used to like jim beam Black, that didn't last long once I started to make my own. eventually I had to shell out the coin to get Makers Mark, now it tastes like its laced with heads. I enjoyed Bulliet, but I can't drink it anymore unless its mixed. right now there are only two readily available bou...

we got rattlers around here but on in dry areas. so we gotta keep the dogs away from rockpiles in the corner of fields and dry ditches. our smallest dog (8 months old) got hit by a car three weeks ago. broke her femur and did a little damage to the hips. expensive vet bill and 3 weeks of carying her...

Re: Copper Plating?
copper has gone up in price but not so much so that it'd be worth cutting corners.
theres lots of good options to save a few bucks, lead free brass is getting to be more readily avaliable, but plating, unless you got a connection, will probably cost more then just buying the pipe.

hmmm fresh salsa. most recipes call for cilantro, I'm not a fan of cilantro myself so this is a great place to start. Just planted out my peppers tomatoes and cukes today, so hopefully I'll be making some garden fresh salsa in a month or so's time. just a little addition here, I've found that the pe...

ya, if you can find a brisket around here they're a little on the expensive side. you have to go to the specialty butcher to get it and thats always 2X the price per pound right there

Po'Boy Pastrami
well I thought I'd share my recent success with making a very nice pastrami on the cheap. Pastrami usually calls for a Brisket, which can get quite costly, but for this time around I used a inside round, which gave a slightly different texture but not significantly so. Its just important that you tr...

Re: Need help picking still type
Ok, I'm a little confused here - you say that a flute is a reflux still, but I thought that reflux stills gave product that was higher in abv and lower in flavor. the beauty of a rig like that is you turn the reflux up high till the heads are compressed and removed, then you lower your reflux ratio...

for the sake of consistency. control is also good. its a matter of what you're set up for. if you run the same thing the same way every time, you want slow adjustments not sharp. but most folks use their equipment for a variety of washes, so then its best to have control. each have their benefits an...

theres something to be said for larger volumes of water in the defleg, changes won't be instantaneous, which can be good, but yes does require a lot more adjustments.

I noticed a thread of yours on the ADI sight. Looked very interesting. Kind of like the flute but all the plates were valved if I remember right. it has a valved plate drainage system, but the plates use bubblecaps. I penned up the design a couple years ago, but was supposed to be 6". we decid...

Re: New Take on a Great Design... ODs Magic Flute - Mark 2.
I tried to designed around the problem myself. some copper grommets that were shrink/heat fit together so there was a little mechanical retention. but still in my mind its hard to get around some trouble areas, hard solder will always be needed in some places.

OD, do you hard solder some components before the final silver solder?
this has been an issue in my own mind, what should be hard soldered and what should be soft soldered.

Well my point being, its a world wide economy. American Companies are manufacturing in China. Re: Plated Potstill
is that a jacketed reflux condenser or another "onion"?
I always liked your inline thumper Larry, I'd originally thought of using a section of 4" between the ball halfs to create a chamber to do so.
I might still do that later. but I want to give the plate a run first.
