Re: Birdwatchers Wash Fermenting Temperature Issues
What is your water like? Is it lovely and drinkable or shitty like mine? I never test for ph, but from the state of the washing machine, the kettle and the taste of the water around here its really really hard. Like there are bloody half bricks dissolved in it, so i always add a dash of citric acid,...

Re: Can I build a worm condenser that will fit in a 2 inch pipe?
Yeah probably, but why? It would be a pig to build, as youd need some way to mount and solder your worm into the 2" and let your coil pass through the walls. i would say 10mm pipe is too small to pass vapour through especially since it will get slightly smaller in diameter once you coil it so s...

It occurs to me that the hop flavour comes across just fine in beer that is mostly water. High test alcohol shouldnt be needed to carry over everything you want. Maybe a concentrated essence could me made by simply soaking in water for an extended time? Maybe another of the myriad uses for an ultras...

How are you mounting your thermometer? I have a little bit of brake line i soldered into place that the stainless probe of my thermometer fits quite nicely into, so all it needs is a couple of wraps of ptfe tape to seal. Obviously this wouldnt work as well with just a hole in the wall of a copper pi...

Backyard casting fellers build their own burners all the time. (Links removed because i forgot im not supposed to do that. Google reil burner instead.) They're really really simple. I used one of these to melt aluminium years ago before i upgraded to electric. Although the full burner may be too muc...

I havent weighed them, but i just picked up two big old boxes of blueberries for a tenner on the market. I filled 2 2L kilner jars to the brim with em, and i still have about a box and a quarter left. Im looking at about 2 gallons of panty dropper i reckon. In other words, i just bought a good month...

To veer slightly closer to topic, i just finished my shotgun. Got to do some cleaning up and some file and paper work, but she is watertight and the clamps fit. That would cause confusion as in my area a "monkey Wrench" was the term for a pipe wrench. The above adjustable wrench went by the brand name "Crescent" wrench. Ah yes, that name floated around too. So did the term for diagonal cutting tool we affectionately referred to as "...

Lazy shotgun baffles
Resizer_16521723169501.jpg So, nothing particularly new here, but i figured id share my lazy method of making shotgun baffles. My mrs has said similar quite recently. Sat in the pub together, she was drinking spiced rum. She turned to me, and said that she could smell the vanilla but couldnt really taste it. There was too much ginger and it was a bit headsy and harsh. She didnt like this rum and wanted something else. Fair ...

Another thing I would suggest is , dont use bottles...how the fuck do you get a any sort of small dipper " like a bent up tea spoon" into a bottle to take a sample.......try smelling something from a bottle .....then a jar.........Bottles for cuts suck imo. Wide mouth ones might be ok ......

Remember you dont have to fill em up! I use a case of old 330ml glass pepsi bottles to collect into. The next half a dozen i fill all the way, and any that are ...

In the uk here, and whilst distillation is totally illegal nobody seems to care. Years ago my mate used to work in a scrap metal yard, so i went down to visit him to see what goodies he had for me. Ended up with the 2" pipe and most of the bits to build my nixon stone. It was when his boss wand...

Has something climbed out of your boiler and fouled your packing? I did this not long ago. Pushed too much power with a slightly over full boiler and it puked.
