Howdy. I'll add $0.02. I add backset to my rum like Absinthe. I also add a whole squezed lemon to my boiling sugar /molassas mix. In a potstill: I strip 2-3 runs, and then for the spirit run, I top off the still with fermented rum wash. This seems to give a richer flavor to the stuff at the expense ...

Wow. I was just going to ask if anyone has made a Coffee type VM still for stripping runs (of clarified, all liquid washes/mashes), and here it is. I would only use a rig like this for stripping runs, and then make cuts on a potstill, or run the rig in traditional VM style. I don't really trust the ...

Some of my best whiskeys are from all tails runs. That being said, they come from washes made mostly from grains, and only the occasional addition of refined sugars. If I do all tails, I try to do it from all of one kind of wash (ie; all bourbon or all barley, dont mix the rum tails and the whiskey ...

For all molassis, be sure not to make it too thick. molassis has some sugars that give varying results with different yeasts. As far as inverting, the lemon/lime/other citrus also adds some trace nutrients other than just the acid. Holding off on the sugar and doubbling the molassis seems to take lo...

In South Central PA, we call the thyroid of the pig Sweatbreads. We never ate the testes when castrating hogs (damn, those little suckers squealed...made me feel a bit sorry for them), we couldn't keep the dogs away from them though. Been a long time since I butchered hogs, I really like homecured h...

If you are doing strippng runs, just fill it up 3/4 and then add the remainder of wash in with the spirit or next stripper. It's not the end of the world, rather it is just inconvenient. I'm sure you'll be able to adapt your recipees or procedures to make it work out....even with a collumn/controlle...

I remember looking for reaserch on the Silex (laser assisted isotope enrichment) method, and it was indeed both patented, and Classified. Maybe there were some improvements, because when I was researching the Aussies were the only ones considering it, and they had decided not to continue with it com...

Bear with me if this seems stupid. microwaves of a certian frequency/wave length can excite and heat water. What about pure ethanol. Some plastic containers are not heated at all, or are barely influenced in my Microwave oven. I dont have the refrence materials on me, but might (various)alcohols or ...
