Re: liquid activated carbon in a mash to be distilled

carbon is BS. dont believe the garbage people at homebrew shops tell you they just wnat to sell you more nonsense. do commercial distilleries use carbon? no. do you need to? no, not if you do it right in the first place. also, turbo yeast is just more overhyped trouble. simple bakers yeast or if you...

i use corny kegs and rigged a copper tube outspout. just put in 1-2 psi CO2 or air and it works like a charm

store low wines in corneys till i have about 10 gallons then spirit run in the 15 gallon keg

Re: Parallels between all-grain beer brewing

from what I know about beer, the main reason for the boil is to concentrate the sugar content after adding the sparg water this can be the case sometimes, but usually only needed if you mess up. the gravity can vary widely depending on the ratio of grain to water while mashing, the volume of sparge...

Re: Anyone Ever Used A Stir Plate For Starting Yeast

if your using bakers yeast it isnt worth it because of the already super low costs. but if using specialty yeasts like muntons or ec-1118 etc. it is very worth it. i did some quick measurements on one batch and over 24 hours, the mass of the starter doubled! (gained as much mass as the original mass...

i use a 15.5 gallon keg with 5500W electric inside. as long as you settle washes before hand it works great. if you are not careful, lots of solids in the wort till cause it to boil over and puke. other then that i have loved my insulated boiler. insulation basically comes down to what you are loosi...

i use recycled wine bottles. the bigger 1.5L ones are great. 9 of them fit perfect in a milk crate for storing.

picked up ~100 of them at the local recycle depot. seal em with wine corks pushed back in the top from a bar.

Re: Distillation temperatures, step by step.

As you told, a wort is not water, it's a lot of compounds all together. Why did you compare it to water? Well, I might be wrong, since I didn't spend much time there, but a while ago, at school, I've learned that ethanol is evaporating at 78~79c. And that H2O is evaporating at 100c. So what would b...

Re: Distillation temperatures, step by step.

sounds like you need to go over the basics of how distillation works. gotta get the basic chemistry into your head before worrying about making anything drinkable. Would applying a constant 78~79c heat during the whole run be a good solution? you apply energy, not temperature. the chemical compositi...

I do not have the floor space to ferment the amount of wash necessary to apply your idea. it realy dosent take much space... if you already have a standard 5 gallon ale pail, there are 15 gallon plastic drums that are only and inch or two wider...plus they are stackable. so you can easily hav...

Re: Centrifuge? would it work???

Can someone please confirm if my thinking is right or correct me. In our boilers we don’t really make a gas we actually make a vapor, which is a gas filled with small droplets that are very excited (by heat energy), they are so excited that they can’t bond with others and form back into a liquid. t...

if your using direct flame be very careful of burning the bottom. if you already have a good size still, which i assume you do if your bothering to do AG mashes, its very easy to make a steam wand that runs off your boiler. i made mine with spare parts from my still. i highly recomend it because you...

gin is a macerated spirit, so you want a good neutral as you base. that means you want a good tall reflux column to pull pure +95% to make good gin you have to make a good vodka first  if you have a good reflux column, just about anything that is fermentable can be used since all the flavors w...

Put the long draw tube back in and add some pressure. Won't take long to transfer. thatll work but i want it to be 100% SS or copper. you need a rubber o-ring to seal the downtube, else you just get air. shouldnt be hard to solder a copper tube directly to a spare post bolt, just havent had the time.
