One pot still for different spirits?
Hi folks, I was just wondering if you guys were using the same pot still to distill different spirits or you have one pot still for every specific use. I got a little 10 l. copper still I used for years to make absinthe and I wanted to use it this year to rectify apple brandy low wines (28-30%). Is ...

Re: easy tri-clamp ferrule sight glasses
Impressive job man!! What did you use for soldering the ferrule on the copper pipe? What's your technique?

Did you test your setup violentblue? I'm planning on building a setup similar to this one.

Re: 3"VM / 3"Bokmini showdown
The reflux condenser always needs to have coolant flowing through it to knock down the distillate I don't agree. I was talking about when you put your still in stripping mode. You have to close the reflux condenser and only use the liebig condenser. That way you get rid of most of the internal refl...

Re: 3"VM / 3"Bokmini showdown
I think it would be interesting to calculate the internal reflux generated by the angle plate, the reflux condenser and the fact that the output is reduced before the valve. For doing so, let's say after you built the equilibrium in the column you close the flow of water in the reflux condenser you ...

Re: 3"VM / 3"Bokmini showdown
What about using a slanted plate in the big T. In my design I wanna use a 2'' column and a 2''/2''/1'' T for the head and try to put a slanted plate just above the 1'' joint. That's gonna have pretty much the same effect of driving the vapour towards the gate valve . What you think?

Re: Vapor Management Question
I have another question. If I decide to not solder the top reflux condenser and I replace it with a normal cap (with flour paste), get rid of the packing and open the gate valve at the maximum rate, can I use my column for stripping a wash? Thanks a lot.

Re: Vapor Management Question
I finally decided to abort my project of building a 2'' bokabob slanted plate for a VM model like the one in this topic. What you think about a 2'' column with a 2''x 1 1/2''x 2" tee with a 1 1/2'' gate valve? Would the reflux be minimized and the use of the gate more appropriate? Thank you ver...

Re: Reflux still modification??
Hi folks, I did another batch yesterday. I changed the plastic tubing at the offtake for a copper tubing.I put 13 liters of 9% wash in there. I got 70 ml of foreshot, around 200 ml of heads, 600ml of hearts and around 200 ml of tails. The problem is I'm still getting cloudy distillate even in the he...

Re: Reflux still modification??
I distilled 11 liters of 12% sugar wash. I got 50 ml of foreshots just to be safe. Then around 300 ml of heads around 93%. Then 600 ml of 95%. Then the output got drastically so slow so I decided to drop the water flow in the condenser (and in the packing because of the design) to collect quicker si...

Re: Reflux still modification??
I got 900 ml of 95% in about 2 hours and a 1/2. So that makes 380 ml / hour. It's pretty good actually. And for the absinthe, I've been using a 10 liters spanish copper pot still. It makes awesome stuff. As soon as I get back from Switzerland next week I'll investigate my still a little bit more. I'...

Re: Reflux still modification??
The thing is I bought the still. I don't know the design exactly. I'm not a good welder either so I dont want to fuck things up. I started to get the packing out of the column and I saw that it looks like the condenser is going down the colomn and the packing is wrapped around. To me it looks like a...

Re: Reflux still modification??
What is wrong with you guys? Its just that my english is really bad an I have problem to express myself sometimes. The guy who makes these reflux still has been making these still for 12 years.I bought it. I doubt at the beginning. I tested it.Got 95% on the first run. I'm satisfied and I will not d...

Re: Reflux still modification??
I'm 99% sure that the inside of the still is designed as a cooling management setup (CM). I can control easily the flowrate of distillate coming out of the offtake just by playing without the cooling water flow. It's pretty accurate and the flow of distillate is changing fairly quickly (almost insta...

Re: Reflux still modification??
I just did a test today. The distillate came out at 95%. I just had to play with the water flow in the condenser. The only problem is I used a plastic tubing at the offtake and I got a cloudy 95% distillate. I'm pretty sure it's dissolved plastic. I'll dilute my distillate with lot's of water and ad...

Yeah there's an angle plate and there's a packing of stainless steel wool. There's no hole on top though.

Reflux still modification??
Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and I have a question about my new still. Should I add a ball valve at the offtake? I'm a bit confused about the reflux ratio and this kind of stuff. Could you tell me if I'm right : I wanna add a ball valve so I can adjust my reflux ratio. Is it ok if I do that : open...
