Re: DWWG Recipe
Pillowcase or homebrew grain bag?!? To be honest the extra work involved wouldn't be worth the trouble for really no gain in the quality of the final product (in my opinion). I am going to stick with the wheat germ ( a little more careful about what i buy) and the rum. Although some experimenting i...

Re: DWWG Recipe
The corn meal had about six inches of sludge on the bottom of the carboy at the end of fermentation. Until I get a way to strain or press the tailings I won't be making it again.

304 316 stainless
I have a supply of 304 stainless but was wondering if it would do for a still?
I did look around and found many replies but none just stating it was or was not.
what would the detrimental effects be of using 304 instead of 316?

Re: Diagrams and Plans Chat
I was just looking for the correct spot to post this same question. I have been reading all the flute threads and think they are just awesome and was wondering why the deflag couldn't be replaced with a coil.
How did it work?

Cloudy after diluting.
I brought up a bottle of rum i had in the basement to share with some friends and watered it down to %45 and it turned slightly cloudy. The original percent was 75 and it was crystal clear I did search the site but couldn't find anything to answer as to why this was happening. Any comments would be ...

It certainly doesn't ferment quite as vigorous but it is fermenting fine. I added some yeast nutrient and dap as well.

Re: DWWG Recipe
well that was one reason i am experimenting. I went to buy wheat germ at the store and bought wheat bran by mistake.
I had some corn meal here so it is in the works as we speak. We'll see how it turns out
thanks for your reply

Re: First Try at a Rum
I stilled my rum a couple days ago . It turned out really good. I am most pleasantly surprised as this was my first attempt at a certain product without the flavoring packs. I tossed the first 50,75ml snagged 375 ml of 90% off the top then gathered 1x 750ml of 70% 1 x65% 1X60% 1x55% I saved two 750 ...

Re: favorite mixed drink
Dark rum on ice, or dark rum and seven.
dark rum and dr pepper is also a good drop for me.
I usually buy Blask seal, Cruzan gold or Screech
A decent rye whiskey on ice helps at times.

Re: Hello From Canadas East Coast
I just put on my first stab at a rum, I put the recipe i made4 up in the recipe development section. ya can't live in this area and not want some rum eh.
I tried it a few weeks ago but I used turbo yeast to ferment the wine. I know I know ! But this one seems to be working good now.

Re: First Try at a Rum
bakers yeast? ok I figured the lalvin to be a hearty yeast for this but i'll give it a try.
It will be easier for me to get also.
I did rehydrate the yeast but only for about ten minutes and with just plain water.

Re: First Try at a Rum
Fermentation seemed slow this morning but it was fermenting.
Maybe because I only used i pkg of yeast.
I added a thinly sliced apple to the fermenter
