Re: Novice Guide for Cuts (pot still)

Well you are always going to have usable ethanol in your heads and tails, I'd say that means you should add them back indefinitely. I know that a lot commercial distilleries do this. Some even add foreshots, although I doubt I'd mess with that.

Re: New Beer fermenting bucket

Glad someone else digs the idea. My older brother laughed at me and told me to just watch the bubbles come out of the vent tube. I am way too curious for that though. I gotta be able to see what's goin on.

Did you try putting weather stripping in the bottom of the snap channel in the lid? Works like a charm for me.

Yeah man, that is exactly what I was thinking. There were some buckets with looser lids, but I like the idea of a nice tight seal. The back side of that jar has no embossing, so it is pretty easy to see through.

New Beer fermenting bucket

Picked up this 5 gallon HDPE bucket from walmart today, for $2.50. I cut a hole just a bit too small for a mason jar in the middle of the lid, and then screwed the jar in tight. This way I can look in without opening the seal and risking contamination. It will also serve as a good way to access the ...

Yeah, stainless or copper is the way to go. Like V said, keep an eye out at goodwill, or the like. I just found some dirt cheap stock pots at Ross to use for my pot/thumper setup.

A trick I learned in art school (for shinking file size) is to save your file as a high rez .bmp file. Then reopen the .bmp and save it as a .jpg. It will strip out all the data but the image.

I am using a 3/8 worm too, but only 20ft. I am thinking it should be fine because I have an 8qt thumper for my 12qt boiler (my whole setup is pretty small to keep it apt. sized) that ought to take care of anything that gets burped up, right?
