Re: Silicone tip for steam wand

Evening folks. I'm just reading and dreaming tonight. I gave up years ago on stirring/agitating a mash with steam power. The effect of this elastic silicone with the hole being the exhaust nozzle could be the puzzle piece we were missing though. A metal orifice would be susceptible to clogging, and ...

5:13am and I'm drinking brandy made in 1993 from wild plums. Everybody else has called it a night, but I'm not done yet. Bubba said "while picking the plums, a drop of blood on the thorns, for every drop of brandy. I figure that's an exaggeration, but anyone who has walked through a wild plum ...

RIP Butch, damn sad to hear of his passing. Haven’t been on in a long while and decided to stop in… and got horrible news. Well shit. I missed going to his first event due to spending time on the move that has separated me from this hobby, and all my hobbies. I have always regretted that. TB was a ...

water cooler and a very cool old engine video

This is a video about an old ass engine that can run at ZERO rpm! I am posting it because it has a sweet waterfall type water cooler. You could use this to cool the water for your condenser. Hope you ladies and gents are doing GREAT! I miss you guys and hope to be back one day soon. Cheers. https://...

Re: Wood fired steam boiler?

PP hope you are doing well Sir! Have you considered building a rocket stove to power this project? Many rocket stove designs incorporate a pipe going up into a barrel type chamber for reburning. Maybe you could put the pipe off to one side and put the boiler inside the reburning chamber. Could be an...

Ezlle, Looking for a work around, the outlet that sold me my 2 by 1 by 2 inch copper tee sent me a 3/4 by 2 inch by 2 inch copper tee so do you see any reason why I couldn't reduce from 1 inch to 3\4 th to 1 inch within the copper tee for 3 inches tops? The 3/4" would have been fine. Its plent...

Got an update Cornhusker? I opened everything up just after the 1st of the year. I've been wanting to get through various comparisons before posting an overall set of impressions, but I will say that this has been very enlightening. There is a very wide range of flavors and colors. Entirely differe...

Re: Counter flow chiller for a pot still

There is no low boil, there is just boil. No matter how you heat it the temperature of the vapor will be the same. You have to run a pot still by the output. So turn it up as much as you want (within reason.) You will not gain anything by going slow. You have to turn it up to go faster.

I would guess so if the jacket boils over, it would just flow into the inner pot? through those holes? Maybe to let steam out from the jacket in a safe direction? How tight do they fit together?

Re: Counter flow chiller for a pot still

Change one thing at a time. Use a better heat source and see what happens. Does better mean smaller or electric? I've built most of my still from my brewery which uses gas. I have a much smaller propane burner with a needle value that I can use. Why would you want a smaller one? You said you are ba...

The question is, will 4 plates be enough to strip all the alcohol from the beer? That depends on the rate you feed it beer. Going slowly I'm sure it will be enough. Up to a point more steam will allow more beer to flow, but at the fail point it will just flood alcohol down the drain. One plate is e...

Remember when running a reflux on the thumper the thumper will fill the longer you go. Account for that and you're GOLDEN!

The main difference is that if you tell people you are running cleared mash in your boiler and the thicker stuff in your thumper they will nod and approve, and if you tell them you have a steam injection distillation system they will get uptight about the number and type of pressure release mechani...
