Re: Managing Water Use - Condenser Output Temperature

Just run your hand up the condenser when its running . You should feel a temp gradient along the length . Cold at the bottom , burning hot at the top . Halfway along it should be warm to the touch . When you have achieved this , your condenser is running at best efficiency and using bare minimum wat...

Re: Go to neutral wash?

Birdwatchers (TPW) was my great stepping stone from Turbos . The improvement in taste and cleanness over Turbos was astonishing . The only downside was the acceptance that 8kg of sugar down to 5kg per wash made a significantly less amount of booze . I tried Wheatbix all bran and had varying successe...

I do it quite a bit . If its a Pot still , yup just start it up and keep going .
If its a reflux still or flute , just hold it in full reflux for awhile to let the column equalise before starting to take off product again .
I think thats what Jayka was referring to “things getting a bit muddled “

Re: Pot Still and ABV%

What I can get my head around is how do I lift that to 95% ABV or is it simply impossible, no matter how many passes one makes. In theory you most certainly could get 95% out of a Pot still .( The reason you can’t is because we always recommend dilution back down to 40% before redistilling for safe...

In Aussie I’ve had no trouble just getting a small 1litre bottle from the local chemical supply shop in town . I would caution against suggesting battery acid . Once the activity has slowed to a stop , I’ll normally wait at least a week . That will be enough time to settle most of the suspended yeast and stuff out . No real gains after that . You can pretty much tell when its settled enough if when you drain or syphon off , you find the yeast cake is solid ...

For the time being use a flour DOUGH.
That hole is a bit big for paste.
Flour, some salt to help condition the gluten, some olive oil for ease of handling and work it a fair bit.

I'd like to "dumb it down" so that I can use a PID controller, instead of the built in one. (i.e. just run this as a kettle and let the PID do the temp. control.) The whole purpose of this topic is to bypass the temperature controller so an external Power controller can be used . What possible reas...

1-propenol and 1-butanol tend to concentrate in tails after a reflux stilling . When one thinks of tails , we generally think of cardboard , damp , musty . This is not the case when we reflux hard . Tails bare no resemblance to the tails from pot stilling or from light reflux stilling . If you can’t...

Water on its own has a gravity of 1.000 When you add sugar it makes makes the solution more dense . It has more buoyancy . This causes the hydrometer to float higher .A hydrometer is nothing more than a stick that floats with marks on to show how dense the solution it’s floating in is. Incidentally ...
