Re: Hikeing the Pacific Crest Trail
oh man, soooo jealous. i dunno if i can stand seeing pictures. i'd so love to shed a whole shitload of real world and spend 3 or 4 months on that trail. once you hit the border i'm only about another 130 hours north if you want to stop by. That's not to far. I'd walk up that far for a good drink wi...

Welcome aboard Codemonkey, if you don't already have a still think long and hard about what you need to produce the sort of spirits that you like. Dont commit to buying or building until you are 100% sure that you know exactly what you need for the job. Many Newbs find out when its to late that the...

Re: Hikeing the Pacific Crest Trail
When you get to Washington, if there are bars opened, I'll buy you a beer. That's a hell of a trek. The lady and I were planning that same trek doing the full length before we had kids and scrapped those plans. When I get that far north I'll take you up on that, if the bars are closed we can just d...

Hikeing the Pacific Crest Trail
Well I decided to say fuck it and do my dreams. I've been out hikeing the Pacific Crest Trail for the past couple months. So far I've been through horrible storms, got a little frostbite, and I've been re learning how to deal with things on the fly. The virus has made things difficult for resupplyin...

I've been at this for some time now. I run into stuff all the time that I don't know, like running a reflux still in 102f outside heat vs 55f heat. What now? I think you you can do this for 70 years and not figure it all out. +1, especially if you are experimenting with new concepts. These forms ar...

As an experienced distiller I am going to purchase an air still. Then I will follow the instructions perfectly. After I may or may not post my experience.

Re: The Badmotivator Bain-Marie and Oak Barrel
I've done 3 batches in mine. A rum, a whiskey, and a ricillia. I'm absolutely sold this is the perfect container for small batch hobby distilling. It gives the same effect as about a quarter barrel but you don't have to distill 15 gallons. This is so awesome.

Re: Tastes like Tequila.
So to answer your question..... I have had moonshine that tasted like bad tequila. I think mostly it's from raw sugar, bad cuts, and high fermentation temps. You kinda got your but chewed here on the forum, take it in stride everyone want's you to be safe and successful. Keep in mind this a dangerou...

It kind of depends on the obv of the mash. 50 -100 ml on a 5 gallon mash is the rule of thumb. If you do that you will be fine and make good booze.

I once drank half a bottle and I didn't get laid, so I reallly don't get what this is all about. All of that aside if you want to proof a sugar laced spirit you need to do one of 2 things. You can get close by doing the math of what was the proof of the alcohol I dumped I to the mix, in that case yo...

The only reason I can think of to make vodka from taters is if you have nothing else to use. That said sweet potato peels have the enzymes you need to convert the startch, ginger root can help as well.

Re: roof not tall enough
Eaglecliffs, how did you get a ttb permit being that your column is 5ft above your roof line? I assume if it's above your roof line your distilling outside and that's kinda of a no go with the ttb. As for commercial distilleries have accidents there have been a few recently. I'll bet there are plent...
