Re: Foaming issues.

Well I am winning . . . sorta. Used a good squirt of defomer and about an ounce of cooking oil. As soon as the heat started to rise up the reflux column I turned the heat down and ran it slow. It ran good from 70% down to 40% but just under 40% it started to puke again. So tomorrow I will pull it ap...

Re: Foaming issues.

I just finished brewing a 200 gal Rum Wash. I used 8 litres of Blackstrap and the rest was white sugar. There is still carmel left at the end of the brew. Now when I try to run it it pukes before anything comes off. I have a 30 litre still with a three foot column and I normally run 20 liters in it....

Re: 75 pounds of free ripe bannanas need a little help

Finally got everything running right. Used the bottom valve and got most of the gunk out. Sieved it all and then racked it over night in a plastic garbage can. What is left in the fermenter is all clear now. As for the still, I do not use a thumper because of the design of my still. The Reflux colum...

Re: The art of making a Geist (Lemon and Orange)

Had some of the stuff I made last night in a cup of tea. Earl Grey with I 1/2 ounces of 50% ABV Lemon. Wowzer. That will cure any cold or else make you forget you have one for awhile. I am thinking it will also go great in Ginger Ale as well as in Orange Juice. Might even use it to spike Lemonade th...

Re: 75 pounds of free ripe bannanas need a little help

Until I get the crud down below the top valve I am going to have to take it off the bottom one and sieve it. I already tried the air but it just reclogged. There is that much crud. After I sieve it, I will put it in carboys and rack it. I don't expect to get all the crud out by sieve. When I distil ...

Re: 75 pounds of free ripe bannanas need a little help

Well the Bananas are done working and all the crap is in the bottom of my 800 litre fermenter. I pulled a one gallon sample and distilled that in my little test still. Lots of Banana flavour. But here is the problem. There are two drains on my fermenter. The low one for removing everything at the en...

Re: The art of making a Geist (Lemon and Orange)

Well I am back here after a long time waiting for three carboys of lemon wash to ferment. Man it took a long time. So to get all the flavour I could, I took the reflux off the still and ran it in pot mode. My still is in segments so I can do things like that. So now I have a bunch of alcohol that on...

Haze and it's causes and what it is

Most people get haze in the tails. I have not experienced that. I get haze in the fore-shots and I determined that it is Tert Amyl that occurs there. But now I have experienced another situation of haze. I had ten ounces of heads that was really smelling medical. I don't drink these heads but I use ...

Was just doing a run and had a weird thing happen. I was near the end of my run and the SG was down near 20% and a sudden thing occurred. Will you please avoid hijacking threads? thank you. Just to note Geist and Lemoncello is made out of lemons. Start ...

Well I pitched the yeast yesterday on the 400 litres of bananas but before I did I realized I had forgotten to put in the last bag of raisins and two more lemons. Puried those in the blender and boiled them up and added another 25 litres to the batch. So the total batch is now 425 litres. Checked th...

I am hoping for some thinning to. That slop is slimy. Read my next post where I tell you what I did about it.

I did the boil in two...
