Just found you. Check out Booner's Casual Corn in the Tried and True section to learn a bit about using enzymes. I gave him hell for holding back information on how to achieve the high efficiency he claimed to get ... I did find ways on my own. scuba stiller

Re: Booner's Casual All-Corn
+1 on suggestions above. I too had troubles with the original recipe, fought it hard by keeping the heat on low after reaching a rolling boil and eventually achieved good conversion using increased heat time and temp. When I quit being bullheaded and bought a Corona Mill and half inch drill for grin...

Please give us the full info on the "enriched cornmeal" you are sourcing. We live all around the world and don't know exactly what you are dealing with. Corn is corn. If you have "enriched" corn, what has been added?

Scuba, can you send me a link to the site or a number I can contact them about the rye? Thanks Sorry Turtle, that is a Mom & Pop feed and seed store in a rural small town. They do have a telephone, but they don't ship. It is strictly cash and carry. They don't even have a radio, let alone a com...

Corn and wheat make a really fine bourbon. We do grow a lot of rye down here also.
Have fun and stay safe.

Where can I source the husk? Sounds interesting. The SOH loves all things chocolate. Infusing might work with more than just rum.

Others have reported most blenders only work for a little while. Seems a few folk had some success with the larger food processers with grinding attachments. I went the Corona Mill and a one-half inch high amp drill. Heard tell there are some mills on e-bay for about $25. Edited once to complete the...

The last time I ran an Oden's Easy Gin some tangerine pealing slipped past me into the boiler. The extra oil did cause some cloudiness, but I drank all the evidence.

With mine, after I clean them up I char everything except where the original char was. That becomes a very soft spot if re-charred and gives off lots of powdery bits and over charred pieces.

Oats and Rye tend to go volcanic. I give them respect and headroom both in the fermenter and boiler. I hate cleaning a puked still worse than moping the floor.

You can always "bulk up" the paste by using strips of material to make the seal, not just paste. Strips cut from an old "T"shirt will help the paste not "blow out". This is info provided with no knowledge of your set up.

... The problem is, my all grain tails taste pretty freakin good. My last few runs, I kept all the jars, until I hit that cloudy jar, and dumped the rest into feints. If I were to include a cloudy jar, or half, is that gonna cloud up the spirit? Probably not. But, it is lower ABV. Is this real tail...

Re: Propionic acid
I've been denaturing the propionic acid with a two level tablespoons of baking soda in addition to other protocols for AG washes. It's corn with a mild food grade acid. I buy it for the starch and it works just fine ... with an additional re-grind for starch exposure.

Re: Ian Smiley's "transferring from fermenter to still"
Yes, it can be added to the boiler. I siphon liquid from the fermenter to the boiler, then scoop the grains into bags and squeeze bags on the fruit press. The resulting liquid is viscous and rarely anything near "Clear". It is important to keep enough head space in the boiler to prevent pu...
