Re: Newbie question; best use for corn mash leftover after squeezing

I've read that deer normally give birth to a single fawn unless food is plentiful then they birth twins. It's no coincidence that my local deer have been birthing twins every year since I began distilling.

I want to reuse them, but don't remember what Great Grandaddy Frank did with them. Any clues?

Well, I didn't know Frank but what a lot of folks do is add some sugar to the used grains and make a sugarhead.

Re: Chemical smell

The adhesive comes off. In the other words, the backing has an adhesive that peels away from the ptfe. The adhesive is on the backing not the PTFE ? So, the adhesive is NOT intended to hold the PTFE in place ? That doesn't make sense to me, from a product standpoint, but you're free to use whatever...

Unless you changed them out, it's probably from the rubber and/or silicone gaskets and seals.

Added a paper towel in the funnel, which catches it all (or seems to). Its a stainless vevor still with built in heating and an added copper piece at the lid to get some copper.

Make your funnel like your still ... stainless steel. Not plastic.

Usually "easiest" and "best" don't go hand in hand.

Once I work up the courage I'll probably want to add some kind of power management solution, but plan to get some runs under my belt first.

You'll want to add a power controller from the jump. Otherwise you'll sour on the hobby after making successive undrinkable products.

That combo will probably take about 3 - 4 hours just to heat up. I'm retired and even I don't have that amount of patience.

I bet that light-roast oat malt would make a great whiskey. I bet that same oat malt would make a perfectly fine vodka/neutral. I haven't met a grain yet that didn't make something drinkable. However, when ordering 2,000 pounds of grain I think you've crossed over from being a home distiller.

Full disclosure: I've installed one (1) pair of 1/2" fittings.

That said, I would not think it would be water-tight due to the oversize of the retaining ring. Unfortunately, a quick search returns few 3/8" fittings for sale.
