A nice herbal mild hoppy type of digestiff or bitter would be great. I guess hops help stimulate the stomachs digestion abilities.

I've had a decent blended scotch that's a $40 retail and then a $500 single malt right after. I'd say price downs t make it anymore palatable. The blended scotch was amazing palatable, fruity, and just made my tastebuds sing. The higher end kne was overly pleated, funky, burnt my tounge and wasnt pl...

For the less sticky mess method use rice hulls (landscape supply store is cheapest) and ferment on the grain. I use big nylon brew bags (a bigger mesh is better) and a mop bucket. A wine press will work great, also depending on your dedication and technical skills you can use a centrifuge, a stainle...

I use glass carboys with a cork to decrease the angels dipping into the carboy. B Invest a bit of money in glass jugs and carboys. Look at your local online used market and look for people selling home brewing and wine making equipment. I've gotten carboys for $10 but I had to buy all 5, was a grea...

Re: Anyone distill a botched batch of beer?

The hop pills can get into everywhere in your still and be a jerk. You'll want to clean it well, a good friend of mine is a distiller at a good sized brewery/distillery and made IPA EU de vie. It is great! He was able to get some great flavor but said the hop oils start coming out in the tails and v...

Re: roof not tall enough

Seems that alot of distillers run multiple thumpers which could save height. Here is a couple ideas I've had. 1. Use a low height, wide boiler with steam or electric heat to save height by eliminating a propane burner which Is like 10inches or so. 2. Use 2 shorty columns have a pot still head on you...

that looks pretty clean, but do a cleaning run first. After a few runs your still will get "seasoned" and a patina will develop. You wont want a scrubbed shiny still either, its best to just use hot water and a quick wipe to clean your still. ill always wash mine after a few stripping runs...

Use 300 series and if a magnet sticks to it then it's no good. Also if you are welding it then tig weld and back purge, hire a professional if you arent, always clean anything you've cut or welded, stainless makes nastys when heated and exposed to air.

@aircarbonarc, I am totally agree with you. Of course, when you get higher temperatures than base metal starts to melt, but there is basic difference between welding and soldering, that is for sure. I started TIG-welding ~5 years ago and can say this is very intelligent way how to join metals (most...

Building seems to be universally constant. My old 2" column I ran my first run on is now being used as the shell for my current shotgun condenser. I've built some simple boka stills, then more complex parts that fit the simple boka stills, experimented with sheet metal and even drew up some pl...

Those gallon jugs that cheap wine comes in are great to have around also for storage.

I did however use a couple water jugs for fermenters while in Mexico, they were food grade plastic so they worked. Just a pain to clean.
