How many litres of 90% to exspect from 50 litres of 40% of stripped wash?
I did a strip run on my wash and got 50 litres of 40% spirit from that, now I am distilling that and have already gotten 10 litres of 90% spirit from that and it is still going on 90%. I would have thought that the percentage would start to go down much sooner. I am running a ccvm tower on top a 60 ...

Good to know, when you say RC what part are you talking about? The Reflux Condenser?HDNB wrote: zackly. the packing below will slow the vapour and some copper scrubbie around the RC will also slow the vapour and give more surface area for heat transfer. and as you mention less energy in the ethanol steam.

Re: Steam venting from the top of my CCVM
The condenser is not large enough or it needs more water. Probably more water helps a bit, but doesn't solve the problem. Thanks for that, I wonder if I wrap the pipe in the coil with copper threads do you think that will boost its cooling capacity or should I just get a wider pipe and make a new o...

Steam venting from the top of my CCVM
I just got my new still going, I have only done one water run to test it and when I did there was a lot of steam coming from the top and almost nothing coming from the output. My still is made up of 15 gal keg with a 2" SS column (1200 ml long) with a 8 ml od copper condenser coil in the top (C...

Re: Hot water heated boiler?
I am currently using the hot water from my tap (aprox. 80° celcius) to heat my boiler but since that heat is not enough the boiler is a vacuum system and that makes doing cuts very hard and honestly I have given up on it so I am building a new one that is heated with electrical element

You must know the proof of spirit and initial volume. Then compute the volume of 100% abv present. Find the final volume of the lemoncello. vol of 100% Alcohol / total volume of end product = %abv I know this is an old thread but just to be sure if I understant this correctly vol of 100% alcohol if...

Re: New still, need a bit of help :)
You could have another approach to it and use a stainless steel milk can? I'm using one as my boiler, it holds 25L (see picture). Of course, if it HAS to be a keg you'll have to ask one of the guys for help. Good luck.... and please make a build thread once you are ready. Boiler.jpg Thanks f...

New still, need a bit of help :)
Hi, I am finally going to build me a new still but after many hours of trying to find a decent keg to buy for a boiler I have given up on finding it locally (Iceland) it seems that the only kegs available to buy here are small ones, 2.5 to 5 gal, and most of them are cornelius kegs which are proport...

I use tart apples and dredge them in cinnamon - it takes a while to settle out but is by far the favorite of all my friends. It gets a lot more trickier for us, we don't have Polaris to take a sighting. Ya need to find the southern cross and Centaurus and sight a line through the cross and the 2 brightest stars of centarus and where the lines intersect is the southern pole. All that before the maths starts , GPS is sure ...
