I like the screw driver idea ~ I've sure broken a few drill bits trying to make a hole in that s/s retaining ring (as per some youtube videos).

I don't know about using half the sugar BUT these days I use half the wheat germ.
For me, this never fail recipe is what I use to (eventually) make my neutral spirit.

Re: Pump for cooling, to sit in pool - recommendations?

Hey C2H6O I know I'm late with this post to your question; just wanted to ensure we all know that pumps are rated in gallons per hour as if the water was just pumped straight out = not at any height. So the good pump airhill pointed runs at 87 gallons hour at 6 feet height ~ far less than the 420 ga...

Re: Sanky Valve...what to do with it!!

I've found a good use for the valve head. I attached it to the end of some silicon tube (split one end of the tube into "tendrils" and wrapped with thin copper wire ) and use it for raking DWWG. The weight of the valve head is good ~ I should put a cotton "sock" around it to help...

Re: Thumper?

Manu is making me a 24inch [600mm] long shotgun condenser - I want to use that on the thumper ( and my other equipment ) but to do so I either have to increase the height of the stripping head or have a tall "vapour out-pipe" on the thumper so I can get a collecting jar under the shotgun. ...

Re: How to make cuts on a FEINTS run?

Thanks olddog et al. Kiwi: The reason its so low %ABV is because I "bothered" ( when I shouldn't have ) to collect WAY TOO MUCH in tails from various spirit runs ~ waste not wont not (but now I'm gunna draw the line ). I will make conservative cuts. Thanks and have a good w/e 'stilling :)

How to make cuts on a FEINTS run?

I have a 3inch, 7ft tall copper reflux column packed with copper mesh sitting on a s/s keg. I've accumulated 10 gallons of Heads and Tails ~ it's mostly tails. I treated it all with bi-carb and all together it's about 15% ABV. I'm ready to make a Neutral from it. Should I expect to still get Foresho...

Figured out how to make copper replacement for the rubber.
What about getting a silicon "plug" from the wine-store ~ it might get past the "review board" and be easier to implement?

With my Blockhead, I basicly have an expansion chamber, made from .027 copper. The passive reflux from this design causes the first drops to come at 85% ABV , compared to 65% from the most common design potstill. (2" riser into a liebeg condenser). Hi Hawke Would you say that your Blockhead pe...

I've been given 5lbs of Apricot Jam that nobody wants. I see the bulk stores sell this stuff really cheap when its past the use-by-date. I'd like to make eau de vie or some such drink from it. Can anyone give me a pointer about how much water, sugar and yeast I'd need to make good use of this freebi...
