Re: All Distillates Have Similar Papery Taste

I’m relatively new to distilling but have been brewing beer for over 20 years. I may have some insight here. I’m also a Cicerone and BJCP Judge and have studied off flavors and their causes for many years. In brewing beer after you are finished boiling you want to chill the wort down as fast as poss...

Re: Tapatalk Ad Removal

I've looked all over my "dashboard" and can't find how this works. I've tried it on the app and on the site. I'm not a fan of unwanted advertising but if I can't figure it out don't get upset. Just relax and have a home distill.

Re: My first electric

Bought the insulation today. I'm going to wrap the heck out of it. If anyone wants to see the copper I'll show them a pic. It's going in my basement anyway so I don't really care if it shines. Thanks for the advice. I'll take more.

My first electric

Coach always said go big or go home. While it's only 15 gallons it's not big but it's mine. I bought the kit then added the second thumper, built the stand and control panel. Can't wait to do a run on this baby this weekend. I'd like some constructive criticism from some of the old timers.

Cheers

Malt Extract

After a forum search I can't find any post where someone has used Malt Extract. If I'm short on time and buy a few cans of 3.3lb Muntons LME I'm assuming it would work. I guess my question is how well? It ultimately would depend on how the extract was mashed and what variables were used but that's h...

Re: Smoked grains and malts

Awesome forum. I smoked some 2 Row Malt today over applewood chips for an applewood smoked vanilla porter I do every year. While I was smoking the grains I was wondering what would happen if I did a mash and distilled it. My buddy then mentioned aging the final run on applewood chips as well. I thin...

I've been an avid himebrewer for over 20 years, I'm a BJCP Beer Judge and now want to expand into crafting my own spirits. Figured I already have most of the equipment (grain mill, mash tun, fermenters, etc.) so it should be as simple as putting together a still and learning the process. Looking for...
