Re: Sacrificial Run
Same. I store mine in a wal-mart fuel container (it's made of some type of plastic) and pour what I need to start the grill.Tabucowboy wrote: ↑Tue Nov 24, 2020 6:04 am I just store mine in an old 10 gal green gas can. I am not going to drink it so I don't worry about it sitting in metal fuel can.

Re: One large ferment Vs multiple small ferments
I moved from small fermenters to a 32 gal plastic garbage tote this summer. I only have to move the 5 gal buckets a few feet during racking as opposed to toting through the house to the garage since I previously fermented in small 5-8 gal fermenters in the master bathroom. The 32 gal is just sittin...

I am a suburbia garage stiller also. I park the cars in the driveway most Friday nights and the occasional Saturday. I have heaters for the winter and a small window AC unit I put in the for summer. Fortunately, I have a cabinet that holds all my still supplies and have managed to squeeze in a 55 ga...

Re: Heads....
I pull fores from every strip and spirit run. I use the fores for BBQ lighter and I recycle all heads/tails from a spirit run back into strips. I can say that the fores smell the same (fingernail polish remover) whether it is a strip or a spirit run. I never got the impression that the spirit run ha...

Re: How long before first success?
I was pleased with my very first run. I would never claim to have a very refined pallet but I do believe that my product has gotten better over the years. I am sure that if I were to have some of that first run to try right now, I would think it was horrible. Probably too much heads/tails made it in...

Welcome, fran_ois! Nothing wrong with purchasing still equipment. I have been home distilling for years now and I still don't have the interest or skills to build one myself .

Hello from Tennessee
Hello all. I have been distilling about 3 years now and have been lurking in the HD forum for almost that long. Joined officially last summer and finally getting around to making my first post in the Welcome Center. I started initially with a Chinese still from Amazon with all the issues clearly poi...
