B15F1847-A2E0-476B-96E2-4A672701F260.jpegThis may help . And hopefully not confuse you . Just an update for all. I ran the remaining 3 TPW or BBW through a spirit run util they were running about 20% ABV. I discarded the remaining foul water for each run. After all striping runs were collected I th...

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe
Hi ALL, the sugar wash (BWS) is still burping. Thought I would give a one gallon "sacrificial" stripping run a try as I have no hydrometer but my wash has a very strong alcohol taste yet still a bit of sweetness. So, I put the copper coil in the Mr. distiller unit and poured in a gallon of...

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe
found this article and now I think things are even more clear to me: Stripping runs perform a few actions, depending on your gear. For pot stills and flavored spirits, they increase the ABV of your final spirit run, making it run much more efficiently and allowing for better cuts. So you strip multi...

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe
Day 12 and still burping but more slowly, maybe every 5 to 6 seconds. Again, I have no hydrometer. The taste is very different now. It is much more sour and I do taste alcohol believe it or not. There is still some, not too much sweetness but more overpowered by a sour dry alcohol taste. My ph teste...

Re: Share something good! (Keep it positive)
So glad I came across this thread. A lot of good things going on. That is just so heart warming. As I wait for my wash to ferment we are planting more tomatoes, lettuce and cabbage today. It is a beautiful day here we have already planted arugula, tomatoes, romaine, bok choy, collards, potatoes and ...

I have printed out a copy and a...

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe
I will "try" to find some. Thanks! I think when I get ready to do my stripping runs and collecting them can I run my setup by you to be sure it is what you are recommending? Your electrician would probably have some discarded copper wire. If it has plastic covering you can strip that off....

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe
Well I do appreciate that. So sorry, but I just want to get it right. No worries. I will figure the rest out some how, so please do not bother yourself further on my account.
Thanks so much for all your effort NZ Chris. It is so much appreciated.

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe
Well, live and learn. good for wiping down surface...great to know as here in Panama very few are stock with rubbing alcohol and if they do have it you are limited to one per customer. now I have no clue if this is legal?? how do you get around that??

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe
I think I am gonna try, as per NzChris, making the four runs, discarding around 30ml foreshot for each run, then take my alcohol meter and collect hearts until my run produces 40% ABV and discard the rest (tail or mostly tails) as I can't be bother to keep the tail for future use. will combine all 4...

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe
Yes Yummyrum I did read both yours and NZChris references. Wow, it is starting to become a little daunting. I am starting to get that there are cases where some"flavor" is desirable for example in the case of whiskey. I however, really detest whiskey or bourbon or anything really beside vo...

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe
So what is the best I can hope for using a pot still and just taking the middle 42 ounces from one gallon (128)? I mean will it be drinkable? Do I really need to collect them in so many jars or can I merely discard the 1st and last 42 ounces. Isn't that what it really boils down to in order to just ...

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe
Now I am curious. I have been reading the post on air stiller, which is what I have. Apparently they do not produce a good tasting neutral spirit. I am not sure I want to invest in a pot/re flux still at his point but I am intrigued. For now, What are my options then if any for producing a better pr...

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe
Oh, two more things to add: I put the airlock back on and I guess I did so tighter (I did no stirring) than before cause it is bubbly away. I get a burp every second or less. I guess I have learned my lesson ( thanks Saltbush, NZ Chris and the Baker) about how not to rely on the airlock. And, I note...

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe
Good morning all, I woke up earlier this morning and the 1st thing I did before attempting to lift the lid off my pale was to remover the stopper that holds the air lock.
