Should I or shouldn't I?
Noob alert! Just completed the first experience in distillation on a 13 gal pot still which I have to regard as; investigative / exploratory / practice in nature. Retained all cuts (all were easily identifiable) There is nothing here that I intend to consume. Eventually everything was mixed together...

Not to take away at all from what you said, seabass. But I have it in mind (probably never do it) to make a solar still. Which does distil without boiling. But that is another thing. Geoff My still is 100% solar and operates in darkness! :) http://www.brightsourceenergy.com/ivanpah-solar-project

Re: Boiler...........boiling wash
Wire swap fixed issue. Thanks! Goes without saying............I don't know what I don't know! Making the still was rather easy. Now comes the learning part. About chasing water temp, in my world of thinking and zero experience, I thought; that with the controller set at a fixed amperage heating X ga...

Re: Boiler...........boiling wash
Dear Brothers I am the OP of this thread, returning from an absence. Thanks to all who have provided advice on my controller build and education. Full disclosure, I shamelessly; rode on your coat tails, ripped off / copied / borrowed from this forum for my build. This controller was built exactly pe...

I am in the middle of making moonshine (for the very first time) my whiskey mash has about finished its fermenting cycle A family emergency necessitates that I leave home for 7 to 10 days Am I OK to leave the mash in the fermentation carboy for a few extra days as long as it remains sealed? Thanks a...

I would wire the; volt/amp meter, LED and fan with 16AWG as they do not consume much amperage. The rest 10/3.
Nice diagram

Yo HillBilly "My pleasure. If you want a design review, feel free to post schematics and photos." I appreciate the back-up! They say immitation is the greatest form of flattery. I'm a gonna shamelessly ride on the backs of you guys (my mentors) for the build. There wont be anything new her...

Re: Boiler...........boiling wash
Thanks for the previous advice..............my inkbird controller is sidelined. The clock is ticking on my 5 gallons of fermenting mash. The variable temp controller is in progress and under construction. Don't know if it will be ready when my mash is done fermenting. Been flirting with the idea of ...

Re: Help Reviewing Controller Box Plan - 240v
Thank you for responding. Please excuse me for not understanding. What is their voltage source? My original controller was an inkbird where it took voltage to pins 3 & 4 fire the relay. The relay was either 100% on or off. Found it to be unsuitable. "You are just installing pots across thos...

Re: Help Reviewing Controller Box Plan - 240v
Hello While following / reviewing this thread and looking at the schematic I noticed that pins 3 & 4 on the SSR are not wired to a voltage source. Per the drawing, two potentiometers (47 ohm and 470 ohm ) wired in series with pins 3 & 4. Without a voltage source I fail to understand how this...

Re: Boiler...........boiling wash
I very much appreciate your recommendations. Wish I stumbled onto this website before building the George D. Inkbird PID controller which will be repurposed for my powder coat heating oven. The inkbird worked rather well. Using it I found that the ability to gradually ramp up the heat was impossible...

Boiler...........boiling wash
Hello Board I have a 13 gallon pot still heated by a 5500W Inkbird controlled heating element. I'm new to distilling and currently testing my system by heating water. On heat up with a 170F set point set, I am hearing what I perceive to be boiling of water in the boiler. Once the water is up to that...

Re: Temprature of ethanol
If you boil pure Ethanol it will boil at 78.3°C . If you boil pure Water , it will boil at 100°C If you boil a mix of the two , it will boil somewhere between ... depending on how much of one or the other is in the mix . And as mentioned . If you are testing the AVB with an Alcometer , unless its a...
