Re: 5 500W installed Capacity DB Connection
I don't know how it works in US, but in AU you are not supposed to touch breaker box yourself. We have laws and regulations governing that sort of stuff and something happens, whether its your fault or not, and you claim insurance - they will deny you payment if they can prove that work was unlicens...

Re: Robobrew distillation top mod......whiskey helmet?
So I found out that the Robobrew I bought secondhand came with a distillation lid. I'm hoping to use this as a pot still, but I also have this copper bowl that I found that I was thinking of somehow turning into a whiskey helmet. Is it fully copper or just copper coated? When I was looking around, ...

Re: Brewzilla/Robobrew with DIY controller
Well, it was so simple mod that honestly its gonna be just a pic of a few wires connected together. Makes it a really boring picture. Once I install a 0-1-2 switch and connect properly, then I'll post some pics. But any person with even a little bit understanding of electrical can make this based on...

Brewzilla/Robobrew with DIY controller
I've built a DIY element controller that I was meaning to use with a new boiler, but sadly, my welder buddy stuffed it up and now its all full of rust. So, had to get inventive. I own Brewzilla 35L for making beer and cook my grain for whisky. As it is computer controller, you can't use it with a vo...

Re: Rye bread whiskey
If you can't locate rye bread in your area, just bake one yourself. Here's my take on it: http://aye-chef.blogspot.com/2010/03/new-york-rye-bread.html It's not as "heavy" as the Dutch or Russian ones, but I think it will do just fine. Although, I suspect once you do, you won't want to use ...

Still spirits Whiskey yeast. Imperial Table Sugar Still Spirits Whiskey Yeast is supposed to be used to produce Whiskey flavored spirit, meaning you need a base mash that is made from malted grains. If you only using sugar, you might as well use regular baker yeast. Having said that, you CAN use th...

Re: Dumping Backset/dunder
I usually put all grains/backset/whatever in my garden. Lately we noticed that our plant that we were sure was dead came back to life. It is located in that same spot where I dump stuff. The other, identical, plant nearby is still dead and dry. So there you go...

My local HBS has no issues with making booze. The lady admitted she makes bourbon and showed me the brand of oak she likes for aging. The young cashier guy makes rum and vodka. We chat openly with other customers present and no issues. I'm in Aus. In feed store when I was buying corn, girl asked me ...

Re: Does the burn test actually work? Hearing that it doesn't
In principle, it works. I put some foreshots in the campfire the other day, bright yellow flame. Then the other day I used some heads and flame was blue. You probably won't get those results when you're running, just because you don't produce enough pure methanol, so it would be all blue, but when c...

Re: Sweet distillate
That sweetness may evaporate over time. If you've gone the turbo path, then perhaps take it to its natural conclusion - carbon filtering. Put your distillate through an activated charcoal filter. That should remove much of the sweetness and also help clear other flavoring.

Re: First Spirit run
Hi, Yes, it makes sense to me. Do the math like this (its not very accurate to the last drop, but gives you an approximation): Initial amount - 4.2g @ 40% = 1.7g alcohol (that's 100%) Since you are not getting 100% (and never will), there is water amount added to that initial projected amount. So, i...

The new iStill Bluetooth Thermometer Probe is ready Hey Odin, not a dig, but a serious question. Support an Aussie Cooper instead of sending your money OS........you will get what you pay for. Cheap rubbish or a well made barrel made by a craftsman. I paid $125 for my 5lt kegland barrel and a 5lt from Cooper is $180 so I think a reasonable price for aussie made. I know $50 is $50 and I would have struggled with that to begin with but I was honestly about to throw my kegland in the bin. Was dripping for a month. Also the Cooper barrel last step...

Fan is extracting and I have vent holes at the bottom, with some anti dust mesh glued. Hot air naturally rises to the top, so cold air enters at the bottom, sweeps across both heatsinks and exists at the top. That's same design as used in PC cases. If I do redistill should I add it back in with the left over (backset) or should I clean out the still and dilute with water? That would depend on how you like your current taste.
