Re: reading
Just finished "A Madman Dreams of Turing Machines" a fiction that covers Turing and Godel and their ideas. Really good read but kind of heady, covers determinism and their theories that all cannot be known mathematically. Overall really a new neat novel.

Re: Column purity, yield, and speed
why do you guys do 2 runs ? You could have the same abv at once, couldnt you ? I just like the results of running a strip run and then loading again for really high proof clean stuff. The cuts are much more pronounced. But it can be done though the I have to slow down my take somewhat. If I want a ...

Re: Column purity, yield, and speed
4 in column 5 ft tall w/ 3 reflux lines in the top. Charged with 8 gallons of stripped run (80 proof) takes me 1 hour to heat up on propane , I throw the first half gallon as reruns. Once I get going I get 2L per hour of 95% till the bottom drops out. Then I start stripping for the next 2 L to strip...

Just finished Enders Game by Orson Scott Card for the second time in 15 years. Have the second in the series, Speaker for the Dead, just haven't gotten into it. I had to read that for an educational gaming class, cool story but also really applicable to education in a lot of ways. Never knew there ...

Go with stainless. I speak from experience with my 4 in rig. I get mine from mile high distilling. Cleaning that much copper sucks. I just roll the stainless pretty tight in rolls and pack the column. At six inches though i really doubt that will work for you. What about a half inch copper in the mi...

I did a 4in copper and love the speed that it allows, but I will tell you that a six inch still will definitely need plates. If I do not take a lot of care in packing my copper mesh my purity drops 2-3 percent at the same speed. I assume that this is probably due to channeling. Here is the link to m...

Let me throw another dog into the fight. Went to the feed store the other day and the only thing that they had was dried cane molasses in the bag with 30% invert sugar. Can I just dilute to 15% sg and go or will I need to neutralize the acid also? Did see any info on the bag about urea. Took a pictu...

Done!!!!!! Took over 3 months but finally got it up and running today. Leveled the thing up and sealed the gap with flour paste. Ran 9 liters of 93% in three hours after heat up, which took about 45 minutes after heat up and knocking off the head. It was a sugar run so it will be good on some fruit....

Did a clean out run with no packing in the column and the reflux lines in the head going. I used about 2 gallons of 80 proof sugar wash along with 5 gallons of water in the boiler and got some good results. After heat up I was getting a liter of 85% every 20 minutes!!! Tomorrow I plan on adding the ...

If the condenser water pressure was cut off one way or another, you would have a nice flamethrower as the vapours come out the condenser. That is why you stay close when it is running and keep a charged hose handy. But to be safe I also have a stand that keeps the jar off of the floor and away from...

Got the off take soldered in and got a crappy pic from my cell phone to show what I did to miss the keg. I also got the reflux lines soldered in so this weekend I could theoretically get to see what she can do to 3 gallons of stripped sugar wash with about 5 gallons of water. I figure that will be e...

That looks great. 14 gallons of 45 to 50% will run that for a while. That was what I was kind of looking for. I always like to double run to make a good clean neutral. I use 2 potheads (no pun intended) on the kegs then carboy about 9-10 gallons of singles. I then add water to be damn sure the proo...

Here are some updates
got a little time this weekend so I finished connecting the column to the keg and putting in the coupling in the middle. Now all I have left is to add 3 more reflux lines in the head. The coupling is soldered to the column so the whole head comes off to pack and clean the inside. I am going to go wi...

I try, this was my first attempt brazing something as big as 4in. Man it tooka while to get up to heat. The bad thing is it will be just as hard to get it to do that with a mash, but hopefully once I get it stabilized I should be doing OK. Anyway, more pics when I get the time to work some more on t...

Hey good to hear from the other Ky boy that frequents these parts. As to reflux and condenser, I will have four 1/2'' reflux lines running in the head before it hits the condenser. So once I get the time I am going to try to stick it all together and give it a test run. As to packing I want the last...
