i flush it with HOT water immediately after the run and before a run.

can actually impart off flavors until adequately seasoned... I like that, seasoned. sound delicious. I saw a Modern Marvels episode where there were saying the ancient Romans (or egyptians?) were using copper to irrigate homes and such. they didnt know it at the time but the copper had antimicrobia...

only thing ive cleared was a sugar wash. once.

i didnt notice a difference. some people say it MUST be done. i dont.

from my limited knowledge, a cleaning with just hot water while the still is warm should be good.

however, a more thorough cleaning of vinegar and water may be necessary if you see it fit.

ive got 10 gallons birdwatchers fermenting. done nothing but sugar washes so far. cant seem to screw em up! :mrgreen:

highest proof ive ever tried was bacardi 151 (75.5%...a half percent? c'mon). once. drinkable, but not something i walk into a store and say,"OHH 151, SWEET!". how cold is your wash? ive only ever fermented in the cold, so when i was having a slow ferment, i place my fermentation vessel on a heating pad. does the trick.

the ones that look like tightly coiled little springs is best. seems around here the only scrubbers designed like that are SS. i bought copper ones that werent like little springs, but once stuffed into the column, fill it nicely.

I run both. just make sure the package says "pure copper" or "pure stainless". there are some brands of copper out there that say "copper coated".....boy am i glad i read packages!

ive just been placing the carboys on top of it and it definitely keeps the temp much warmer than ambient air. it has been working great. no issues with melting pad or buckets (so far).

you know what they say...everything works great the day before it fails.
