Temp at 170 to 175 for most of the run but dipped to 180 to 185 twords tails, never let it get over 190. I set the valve so I was getting about 2 or so drops per second. It took a little bit over 4 hou...

I ended up adding oak and raisins to the batch and it actually came out pretty good. Update: Reflux distilled down 6 gallons of the same wine and ended up with .9 gallons of 83%. I refluxed at approx. 50 to 75 % ratio and I still ended up with a slight odor????? I thought if I refluxed there would b...

Want to make flavored moonshine, help pleeeease.

I want to make mandarin orange moonshine. My question is if I know what flavor I am going to add after distilling is it better to do the mash with say mandarin oranges to pick up any slight odor in the alcohol so when I distill it, it has a bit of the flavor I am trying to acheive or is it better to...

need some clarification Thanks in advance.

I distiller down some extra 15% alc. zinfandel wine I had threw my ministill. I refluxed to approx 50 to 75% reflux ratio. Approx. 2 to 3 drips a second. The spirits ended up at 83% alc, 164 proof. My question is, why did it still have a slight wine odor to it? I thought if you refluxed you shouldnt...

I just finsihed builind the "ministill". With a turkey fryer as the pot the whole thing cost me $90. If you are going to spend $100 buy or build the exact one you want. If this is the syle you want buy it. If not your price range will allow you to build the one you want. Just my 2 cents...

I know I can search for it but would you mind explaining your process for cutting. I distilled into 7 cups to track heads-tails. The #1 cut was very harsh and a bit yellow #2 through 6 were good. #7 was cardboard. I blended 2-6 and pitched 1 and 7. How could I have inproved on the process?

You are right. I had probably 100ml or more go bad from an early filtering of carbon that turned the small amount black so I tossed it. You have distiller wine before, how are you cutting it or aging it? Although its palatable, it seems harsh and has almost a vermouth or grappa, grapy nose and flavo...

Brandy = distilled finished wine (liquid)
Grappa = Distilled seed and stem cake from wine press at the time of the pressing. By law only the cake and no extra liquid can be added to the still to make grappa.

My name comes from I own a winemaking oak alternative company and have pretty good knowledge in toasting oak and oak flavor profiles. I have been been making approx. 100 to 200 gallons of wine each year for 7 years now. Any oak aging questions, I would be more than happy to advise. Lots of extra win...
