Re: Did I puke my head up?

So here you go with the little bit of information you have given. First off where is the temperature reading being taken. In the boiler or in the vapor path? As far as running at 198. You are distilling a solution , you cannot boil separate chemicals.. A 10% solution will boil at a higher temp than...

Re: Did I puke my head up?

Few things are quite as demeaning as being a new hobbyists on a knowledgeable forum of any subject matter.

It is easily forgotten what it's like to be new to a hobby, when you just want to jump into a community and share your passion with like minded people, only to be treated like a child.

Re: Did I puke my head up?

You may want to heed some of the advice coming your way. These guys are trying to help you make something drinkable. Your first batch , as you put it, was just a conglomeration of stuff to make some alcohol. Certainly not a palatable spirit. Well it was intended as a sacrificial run. You never ment...

Re: Did I puke my head up?

Fair enough... I allowed vapor to exit the condenser for a few seconds before turning on the cooling water. I hadn't considered that and I appreciate you pointing it out. I won't let it happen again. So does this mean that I can't get an answer to my question? Is this entire thread going to be a cr...

Re: Did I puke my head up?

I can tell you're excited about the new still and starting this new hobby, but you need to stop what you're doing and read the spoonfeeding thread before you continue. Free alcohol vapors and propane burners are a bomb in the making. If the advice to run a still like that came from the book your re...

Did I puke my head up?

So I ran my first batch yesterday. It was a beer schnapps. Just because I had about 2.5 cases of cheap light beer left from a party and I don't drink that crap. I also threw in some other stuff I had that I wouldn't be drinking: a little bottle of Hennessy, a quarter bottle of red wine, and about a ...

Re: Hi-yo from the swamps!

Actually, the thermometer didn't read anywhere close to where I read it should... Judging by the taste of my cuts. Hillbilly, hope your not makin cuts by temp. With all due respect. Anyway, that for sure is an entirely different subject and you can ask why in another thread if you can't find...

Re: Hi-yo from the swamps!

I'll probably make a new post about that now that I am somewhat introduced and yall know how hard headed I am.

It involves a puke, a spike in temp, and banana flavors.

Re: Hi-yo from the swamps!

My still is not home built, nor is it soldered together. When I did my run I sampled the resulting hooch and noticed no off flavors or metallic flavors. http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=46170 Please listen to what everyone is trying to tell you. We're all here to make this hobby ...

Re: Hi-yo from the swamps!

Duly noted.

Sorry if I seem to have an attitude. The warnings are apreciated. But as far as where I purchased my still goes...
What's do is done, I can only move forward, so I have to have a positive position on the matter.

Btw, aren't there a few online sellers advertised on this site?

Re: Hi-yo from the swamps!

Yes. I saw that. But most of those stories involve people that were either running a large still and/or selling their goods, no?

At any rate, what makes people think that being a member on this forum won't get on a watch list any quo ker than purchasing a still?

Re: Hi-yo from the swamps!

That maybe true. But this website had an explicit disclaimer that they never share customer information. Plus, owning a still isn't illegal. I don't mean to imply I have a false sense of security about what I am doing. I just feel that small time distillers are probably over looked as long as we are...

Hi-yo from the swamps!

Hello Gods of Ethyl. I hail from deep Louisiana. I have been lurking here for about a month. I am a somewhat accomplished home brewer with a few all grain recipes under my belt. That hobby had fizzled out since the birth of my 3 children. I have since acquired a passion for bourbon and rye. So when ...
