Re: problems with red star bread yeast

I've had good results with Fleshmans....I usually get right around 10% with it....As well do not forget to put in an air tight container and refrigerate after the original seal has been broken.....

Re: What is a bushing reducer?

A bushing changes the OD of the pipe with minimal fitting allowance, Fitting allowance is how much room or distance it uses up...A Fitting reducer is a two step fittings that "fits" in to a fitting and couples around a pipe...A copper bushing reducer can also referred to as an insert reduc...

Re: steam pot ponu build getting back on track

Thanks Walking Wolf, I got 10 gallons on ferment today....I'll get the parrot done sometime this week and see how this thing works with an all grain mash....When it was all done and said I got a 190 proof out of her (that will go up with a bigger run), so I'm happy.....

Re: steam pot ponu build getting back on track

Well, she is near completion. All I have left is the parrot...Got some water and white vinegar cranked the steam on high and gave her the onion...That condenser took everything that I could throw at it, I had a nice 1/4 pipe full (1/2" copper discharge) steady stream of water coming out with no...

Good call on the freeze protection....Was wondering though if the heating element can handle glycol??? That stuff has a tendency to make a nasty coating when it get "cooked" to surfaces...I've seen fire tube boilers that developed a leak in them that had glycol and it a an utter mess tryin...

Re: shot gun condenser efficiency question

This one is for my secondary coil on my ponu still....Taking a gander here in saying that from what I come up with it's the surface cooling area that makes or breaks it for the condenser?? So more small tubes would be better than less or one big tube?? yes,no, maybe......

shot gun condenser efficiency question

Is it more efficient to run the cooling water through the tubes or around the tubes? I'm thinking around (outside) the tubes would be better as the flow of coolant would be less restricted..??

Re: my next build,, double boiler/steam

One thing on the safety relief, make sure it is rated for steam...The ones for hot water (hydronic systems or hot water makers/heaters) have a rubber disk, steam rated have both a brass disk and seat. The rubber disk cannot hold up to the temps of steam....As for the glycol in the boiler water I wou...

The torch I am using is a small oxy/ace fuel torch. my findings on stainless to copper soft soldering

Normally I weld my copper and stainless joints, but with a recent build there has been a couple areas where a low heat soft solder joint would just work better (due to the heat distortion welding can cause). So I ventured into new territory on this one and started doing research and experimenting. M...
