Re: Copper Materials, Other Questions
I reckon you picked a nice easy 1sdt still :) when running no packing and no reflux you still need to run water in the condenser on the top other wise alcohol vapor will just pour out. 1/4 inch drill bit will do the job for 1/4 inch tube (outside diameter) i would choose the cheaper pipe L or M it w...

Re: Heating Element Control
If Your home electric system has 3 wire - line (hot ?), zero and ground (earth ?), third wire is a wire of safety. Usually it have green or yellow-green color. It must be connected directly to body of Your pot and have not any contacts wis wires of control circuit or heating elements. yes that's wh...

I will head of and find the parts and give it a go in the near future
the earth is meant for saftey, "green" 3rd wire here in Oz (not sure if you understood me)
i will have a sparky / techie look it over before I fry it (fire it) up
thanks for the design

i am pretty sure they are only a water jacket on the main colum and will not give very good reflux.
not sure but, ask the builder for more pictures of the build process to ensure you getting something good.........
a boka would be the best easy to build still.... whats your location?

Zeki you might want to rethink those elements and go for ones that screw in from out side the vessel. hot water elements etc screw in from outside you just need to weld on the nut..... yeah i been looking for a SS milk urn for ages....... price wise it might hurt..... this is why you might have to o...

I just looked at that ssbowl keg idea in your link... lot of cutting and drilling if you don't have the gear/ if your just running simple sugar wash like birdwatchers (or turbo's  ) you dont really need to "clean" it out, just rinse so easy flange onto a keg is simple a solution if y...

you could look at those 25 / 30L SS boilers for homebrew shop stills as a reasonable start and then build you head on it..... but that's going to run you a few $100 the boiler is the hardest bit, like you said 30L sealing drums for free just dont seem to be thick on the ground...... another option t...

Just build a boka, it is a simple design, time tested, and cheap to build. +1 100% the boka is so simple you can knock one up in a few hours...... no need for fittings, reducers, heaps of joints you can get away with two sizes of copper pipe and be done :) or you can buy a couple of joiners and mak...

are you using a plastic pipe on the collection outlet to run it to a collection bottle? if you are i would stop doing it......... they are very thin walled, you could just drill a hole and use some sort of compreesion fitting and ad a tap to that..... but it's only 25L, use some gloves and tip it do...

yeah soak in unscented bleach for a 1st clean (diluted of course)
then hot water wash / few rinses
then some sort of brewing cleaner / sanatiser
i would give each a visual inspection and have a quick "sniff" of each if suspect just dump it and move on......
