Re: Mashes different colors?
If the darker ones were produced with the new supply then that could be it. My second hypothesis is an oxidized ferment or protein content difference in the barley. There may be various factors but I don't think they will affect the finished product

Re: Pears and natureal yeast
I have fermented several times without adding yeast. Wild yeasts often add flavor complexity compared to a standard yeast.

Re: (cleaning &) sacrifice run on my first still
The contents of the boiler must first heat up to evaporate so at the beginning you can give more power, then you adjust the power based on the output of the product you want to obtain.

Re: (cleaning &) sacrifice run on my first still
On a 2 liter boiler the product output (in my opinion) should be drop by drop...but it must be fairly constant...the power must be adjusted in order to have this situation (constant drop)..so heat at full power then when you feel that the boiler is hot and the alcohol is ready to move up the "c...

Re: shocking yeast ?
I'll tell you what I do: I bought some 500 gram bricks of yeast, I keep a small part in a small glass bottle (sanitised with alcohol and heat), I put the rest under vacuum (divided into several bags) and then in the fridge ...when the bottle is running out I take it from the fridge and put it in the...

Re: shocking yeast ?
In general, the yeast do not do well the temperature changes ... a gradual situation is preferable. Not even the freezing does not do but it is preferable to keep it in the refrigerator. The heat certainly increases the activity of the yeast ... on the technical data sheet of many yeasts, for exampl...

Re: Walmart Deer Corn - Beware
Well, i had some and it was good the first run. Then the damned eggs hatched in the remaining 20 lbs. took about 2 weeks to get rid of all the corn weevils. SWMBO did NOT like them wandering the walls and floors looking for their next meal. They are very difficult insects to eliminate.....it happen...

Thanks for the info and Still_stirrn for the table . I’m still using a bottle of Duzzall , I bought in New Zealand over 40 years ago . It works perfectly on stainless and Copper . My Grandfarther was a plumber . Always made his own by collecting all the off cuts from galvanised iron and dropping th...

Re: Using red wine to lower proof before barreling
EDIT: I couldn’t help it . Here is a bottle of 14.5% Shiraz . Cooled to 20°C (Calibrated alc meter Temp) It measured 5 %abv . I was quite shocked it was that far off :esurprised: Generally you need a vinometer to measure the strength of a wine....I don't think the alcoholometer is the right instrum...

It will be fine anyway ... there are many options, I generally prefer to build but not everyone can or want ... for me it is fun. Start with that and if you want something more you can always use to embellish your home!

It will certainly change the product so as suggested it is better to carry out a small sample first. I make a white wine-based vermouth but it's not the same.

A great article in the link. I usually put a little copper in the fermenter. I insert a coil of copper wires in the final distillation but I think the same should be done in the stripping phase....

Re: Some problem here!?
Welding another flange is the best option....by staggering the two openings the clamps will no longer touch...if the filing is small, the important thing is not to weaken it too much.
