Re: ePTFE as gasket
Tried out the EPTFE last week but forgot to post about it. It worked great, I used it for 4 runs and had to reclamp the lid each time with time in between. The only thing I would watch out for is the gap or overlap between the starting and ending of the material around the lid. I just used a couple ...

Re: Merry Mash Tun Christmas to me.
Looks great, Merry Christmas! My recommendation would be to use one of those stainless steel braided hoses. You just cut out the hose on the inside and attach the braid to a ball valve that you install where the valve on the cooler is an put a plug at the other end of the braid. I have used this for...

Re: ePTFE as gasket
Alright well I put the ePTFE on the lid of my pot today, looks great. I won't have a chance to test it out till later this week, but I'm sure it will work no problems. It is very smooth and has a nice firm foamy feel to it. I'm also going to make one of the PTFE gaskets for where I attach my column ...

Re: ePTFE as gasket
ePTFE is supposed to be more foamy. If I understand correctly it has micro air bubbles inside or something, which gives it softness and flexibility. But if this does not work I am planning on making one of the gaskets with your method Samohon. Wish I saw it before I made the order, if I did then I w...

You shouldn't use silicone as a sealant. It isn't safe because of the high temps and alcohol vapor.

Gasket Material
So I have a feeling I know exactly what everyone is going to say, but I'm gonna ask anyways. I have been using flour/water mixture to seal my pot still ever since I started distilling. The only thing I don't really like is that it seems like everything has a doughy/yeasty taste to it. I have tried u...

I wasn't going to carry it on I was going to put it in a plastic water bottle in my luggage. If I did that how would they even be able to know that it's not water?

What do you think about taking shine on a plane?
I'm going up to see my brother in law and I wanted to bring some along so we can have some, but we are flying there. TSA says that you can bring up to 5 liters of alcohol less than 70% checked in your baggage. Now what do you guys think? There wouldn't be a way for them to tell that it was moonshine...

I would buy them locally for cheaper if I could but I have looked around and I can't get grain around here. BW Redneck I read the Fermentation section of your guide, great work I think it will help me a lot. So what do you guys think about the grains on that site. I know their a little expensive but...

If you read some of the earlier posts you would know that I have said I don't have a store near by where I can buy grain. Plus I am really looking for high quality ingredients.

Re: Which whiskey recipe to make?
I used to do this recipe with 3 gallons of water in a 5 gallon stock pot. Yes, the small batches took forever, but I didn't have anything larger unless I wanted to cut the top off of a 55 gallon oil drum, which was clearly not an option. There was plenty of head space left over for boiling just in ...

Re: Flour Dough/Paste for sealing
Does anyone ever find their distillate tasting like bread or dough? I find mine does and smells like it too and I think it's because of the flour paste. I'm thinking about switching to cork.

Ok I think I'll go for Bourbon. BW Redneck I am in the process of reading over all that you've written, I think it will help me in deciding what recipe I'm going to use. Well I can get whatever I can buy online or at a local homebrew shop, but I don't have places that I can buy grains and animal feed at for really cheap prices. Re: Which whiskey recipe to make?
Exactly I'm not too worried about price but I have never done all grain mashes before and I don't have Huge pots to cook them in, so do you think all grain would be a way I could go? And I don't know what I need, I am really looking for a recipe and trying to see what you guys recommend.

Which whiskey recipe to make?
Me and some friends were talking about making some whiskey (or any other spirit if you have some ideas) that I can age for a long time, like 10+ years and open during some celebration, like my son's wedding. Now if I'm going to let it age that long I want it to be pretty good so I was wondering what...

Re: Sam's Club 24 qt stainless steel stock pot & more
I agree, I'd just go with a keg. They aren't any more money and that way you will have the option to do bigger washes if you ever want to. I have a 20 quart and I wish I had a keg, I'm sick of making 5 gallons of wash and having to do multiple runs.

If you don't want to ruin, or use your brew pot then go to k-mart or walmart and look for a stainless steel stock pot. You should be able to get a big one for $20 or under.

Phew I got all worried because when I tried to look at the site there was another website about some small distillery and I thought they had bought the domain name or something. Good to know everything is back to normal. It does seem a little slow but nothing unreasonable. Thanks

Re: Movement to legalize in the USA
Mounted Goat that seems like a great idea. Only problem is to organize all that they would probably have to do more research on moonshine to get some hard facts and it would take a while to get all of that set up.
