Alcohol content dropping

Post by ATV »

Question if anyone else is having or had this issue before.
Would alcohol content drop 10-20% over a week? ... IE: still bottle at 55% ALC - 110 proof. Remeasure after a wk and alcohol is at 40%.

Let me first say I dont live alone, and to me if alcohol dropped content would mean most liquor stores distillers would have a best by date.
I feel someones dipping into the bottles and refilling with water or tails. Is it possible for the alc to drop without someone messing with it.

No not if sealed, that said was it temp corrected with the initial reading?

Sealed in bottles or mason jars. Im not an expert by any means, i do adjust my readings to +5 from tag i got with the reader, but even at +1 degree coming out, shouldnt loose 10% alc rising to room temp would it? as you add to the percentage the lower the temp.

Don't they know you can measure abv ?

Do you think they're pinching a drink out of the bottles ? or is it more a systematic lowering as though they were saving it in bottles ?

55 to 40 is possible with a huge temperature swing.

but the more likely thing sounds like...well you already know the answer. If something can be stolen, it will be stolen given the opportunity.

like the cops say: motive, means and opportunity = crime.

make some and test every day and then confront the person. if it's your wife, maybe she is just watering it down to help your health

I normally let it sit for a bit before measuring, its cold but not getting condensation on the bottles, its not really far off room temp. Yes they know i can measure it however just insult my intelligence. IE: Maybe water in the wood but happens with clear too, or its like pop after sitting a few days looses its fizz. Angels share, ect... lol. Why i came here to verify its probability, as im the only stiller I know. And prob only stiller having this issue with ALC % dropping.

Thanks for all the replys...

If you went from 55% to 40% you would certainly see a difference in volume.

If the amount still looks the same, well, someone is just trying to help you bring it down to bottling proof.
Look at it as if you have a new assistant.

free labor , lol.

Sad thing is there messing my sipping booze up. If wanted mixed drinks 40% is ok, but when straight up I want something 100 proof or higher. Now just tastes like melted ice cubes in my premium, lost its kick.

LOL, Use only early heads, late heads can be recycled.

Actually, thinking about it more, just use fores, an essence, distillers caramel for color, and some glycerine. Label it "Special Reserve". That ought to sort 'em.

Oh what the hell , throw some methanol in there as well , and some antifreeze ,then when they are found dead the media can have another moonshine beatup again , they love that

Or.....you could just lock it up in a cupboard or shed.

Oh, come on. Fores won't kill you, the next morning you will probably wish they had.

motive - they be stealin' my booze.
means- i got some crazy shit to mix in there
opportunity - well no one is around right now, i think it's a good time to teach a lesson

crime- knowingly administering a noxious substance.

penalty - a whole bunch of your birthdays looking at a wall that looks like: IIIIIIIIIIIIIII

something tells me it would not be difficult for the LEO's to get to the bottom of this one.

maybe just a skosh too far there fellas.

Redwood, at dare's funny, I don't care who you are (a little LTCG lingo).

Edit: unless maybe you are from Jack Daniels.

ATV - Either you have to give them a right good slappin' - Else you need to put your booze away.

I'm not totally convinced - you're not quietly enjoying the fact that your booze is "top class" among your "mates"

Be interesting to see how this one plays out ! :)
