Oak sticks on a pinot or other reds?

Post by PTS_35 »

I plan on making some pinot noir soon from concentrate. I have a yeast that is desigated for this type if red. My question is about aging on oak sticks once done. Does anyone have any suggestions on how many sticks per gallon and for how long? Planned on 3/4×3/4 toasted oak. Thinking two per gallon maybe? For about 30 days?

Haven't had many wine topics on this forum other than converting old wine to Brandy. Have you tried any forums dedicated to wine as we age small amounts at a higher abv on oak. I would guess you find out how long wine is usually aged in barrels and adjust from there. Unless we have wine makers on the forum not sure your going to get a very good answer.

The oak Dominoes that a lot of people are using to oak spirits now were originally made for and used in the wine industry.
Try snooping around the net in wine making circles regarding Dominoes and you may find something.

Haven't made any yet. Will probably just buy those toasted spirals.you know, made some blackberry wine. Bottled after 3 months bulk age and then a month in bottle. It's ok at best. Still very young I guess. Interested in seeing what it's like 6months bottle time. I also got some reisling that I did with wyeast sweet white. Now that's tasting good already. Still got another month bulk then one in bottle before I try it. But it's tasting good now
