Re: rifles
Keltec SU16 in 5.56...uses AR mags.
Cool truck gun. Can be fired from folded position. Threaded barrel. Scope is overkill, but fits in a raquetball bag with scope mounted.

All mine have been 80% Builds. I have some parts for another. Think I'm going pistol lower with the last lower. And I have 2 more uppers I can build. Haven't really decided what I'm gona do with them. One 10.5 for the pistol. And either 300 blk or 7.62x39 for the other? The new 25-45 looks interesting. But really new. I might just go 300 blk for the 10.5" pistol build. So far two 18" two 16" and a 20".

Not a military surplus item, unless you count the folks trading good after bad during the Clintonian assault weapons ban. Someone traded this for a Norinco ak knockoff.
I got it for $695. Put on the scope at that time. It is a Mauser action Steyr 30.06 with a single set trigger, Leopold 3x9, and kicks like a mule. My favorite rifle I've ever owned. Edit: Leupoldo for Leupold

You got a heck of a deal. Every time a gun ban scare happens bolt guns drop in price. I'm hoping I can get a few deals the next time it happens.Hank Reardon wrote:Not a military surplus item, unless you count the folks trading good after bad during the Clintonian assault weapons ban. Re: rifles
Quoted from February of last year:
Remington 700 SPS Camo in .30-'06 with 22" barrel and Nikon Prostaff 3.5-14x50 glass in steel Leupold mounts. It quickly got a Kwik-Klip magazine modification that gave it functional box magazines. I hate floor plates. Main hunting load is a 150 grain Barnes TTSX poly-tipped solid copper bullet (I live in condor country ) running at a hair over 3000fps in neck-sized Winchester cases. I have a batch of 100 grain V-Max bullets for a varmint workup coming.

How prophetic. Saved my pennies and the fam chipped in on Christmas with the remainder for a LGS gift cert.tp wrote:Still love the .30-06 and that will be next into the safe for the longer reach.

While 7.62x51 and 308 winchester are dimensionally the same they have different pressure levels. Not recommended to fire 308 winchester in it.

Re: rifles
Between the World Wars some department or another in America (probably the Civilian Marksmanship Program) sold surplus military rifles to the shooting public. I've got my grandfather's Enfield that he probably picked up for just a few $bucks. This Enfield was made by Remington in 1917 and these are generally praised for having a really solid action. He crudely chopped off a few pounds of unnecessary wood from its front end, ditched the military sights and welded on some 'buckhorn' sights. Sixty years later I had it tapped and drilled for scope rings, but prefer it without a scope these days.frodo wrote: here is mine. smith corona 03a3

During that time period several American arms manufactures were spitting out millions of .303 Enfields for the British or Mosin Nagant (Russian) 7.62x54R rifles for the Imperial Russian Army. I don't care for the looks of the Nagant rifles but they generally have a reputation for fine accuracy. Getting back to the 1917 Enfield; I discovered that since the manufacturers were already previously geared up to produce .303 rifles for the British - they simply re-chambered this rifle to 30-06 when we entered the war. That means that they continued to bore the barrels out to .311 diameter (rather than .308) and continued the gauche/ left handed rifling preferred by the British. Most all other American rifles are rifled with a right hand twist. The three one thousandth of an inch oversize bore of the 1917’s barrel doesn’t appear to affect accuracy too much, but you probably wouldn’t choose it to take to a Wimbeldon Cup Match. Alvin York earned his Medal of Honor shooting a 1917 Enfield.

yes saw that before asked question wrong .Should asked anyone got 1 and do they have any thoughts on it. Had 4 or 5 hundred nato rounds was why i took it .Have little less then 100 bucks in it. Re: rifles
I sold my enfield, but kept the bayonet
check out the price paid for the 03a3 LOL...cant but a box of ammo for that the difference between the nato and 308, is the nato has thicker brass,
this causes head space problems in the civilian 308.
i am not an expert, just what i have been told.

Re: rifles
Might be th' other way around, jed. Kinda like the .223 and 5.56x45. You can shoot .223 in a 5.56 barrel but you have to be careful shooting military 5.56 in a .223 due to different pressure levels (40k psi in .223 vs 50k psi in 5.56). 5.56 also uses thicker brass like 7.62NATO does vs .308 Win.jedneck wrote:While 7.62x51 and 308 winchester are dimensionally the same they have different pressure levels. The thicker brass causes higher pressures for a given load due to less interior capacity and can be an issue near max loadings.

Re: rifles
If I'm thinking rite there is three pressure levels for the same case. Lowest to highest.
7.62 cetme
7.62nato
308 winchester
Kinda the same deal as 45lc. Depends on the firearms pressure rating.

good to see all the fine rifles here.
frodo, that is some super sexy timber you have on that universal 30cal.
i am a big fan of the natural timber stocks.
ive got 13 rifles at this time,from 177 to 12g and 308.
i currently shoot an old omark target rifle in 308.
our range is 300yrd to 1000yrd.
i shoot fullbore/target rifle.[peep sites]
the target at the mile is little more than a pin dot at that range, but damn sure is good fun hitting it.
i love shootin ferals with my ol mossberg 22.knocking cats over is one of my favourite pass times [hunting wise]
shes old but will still drop a cat well past 100yrds with winni subs.

Ran across a sweet deal, a m96 swede mauser 6.5x55 complete stock and barrell /receiver $50.00
so I bought it.
the receiver has been drilled and tapped, so it is no use trying to restore it as original
I bought a Choate Black synthetic stock , new bolt from nemrich and odds ends springs things
I will unveil after it has been cerakote and finished
