Taquila anyone?

Postby jimmyjames1981 » Thu Apr 12, 2012 9:27 pm

Hi, I'm considering trying my hand at tequila, last year on may 5th my local grocery store had a huge blue agave plant for the Jose cuervo may 5th display, after the 5th they had to throw the plant away, it was a fully mature adult blue agave. My friend manages the liquor department and said if I want the plant this year I can have it but all the leaves will be cut off as the local distributor requires them to destroy it, so basically on may 6th I can have myself an agave. Anybody tried making tequila? I'm guessing 2 runs through the pot still head? Any recipes?

You have to roast the piña for hours , and it's prolly pretty big. Then macerate it and squeeze out the juice. Don't know how big it is, or how much nector your gonna get, but I know there's an art to it. I know there have been a few threads on making wash from agave nector, never heard if anyone got decent results
