Redistilling question

Post by Fishy60 »

How much water should I add per quart of about 170 proof moonshine to redistill it?

Enough to bring it down to 80 or 85 proof....or approximately a quart of water to your quart of 170 proof spirit.

There is a calculator on the parent site to figure how much water to add to dilute/temper to bottle strength. See the "calc" page on the parent site.

Some experienced menbers advise diluting to 30 %ABV. Redistilling is supposed to result in a smoother distillate than from 40 %ABV. Proof being double the %ABV.
But I have not tested that.
