vapour temp to wash temp

Post by qlder »

hi all im new to distilling, have purchased a reflux still which i have successfully turned out all sugar brews to around 92 percent.however im moving on to molasses wash and am having trouble with puking,i removed all packing but as soon as i turn the cooling water on it pukes,if i leave it off the temp just keeps climbing but without puking???what i take (upto about 90 c) smells ok but it is a real pain to keep temp in low 80's....im sure im wrong or someones has covered this but here goes ill shoot it out there....is there a way to control the wash temp (internal electric element) using a thermostat at top of the colum measuring vapour?? so the wash will change temp all through the run in relation to the variable compositions in the wash so as to keep the vapour at my desired temp??? im not after a fully automated still i will be watching it just thought it may work,so any comments or suggestions more than welcome i realize there is a hell of alot of knowledge here!!
