Fixing commercial vodka

Postby CoOkEd » Sun Dec 13, 2009 1:46 pm

A friend of mine came back from Russia and gave me some "Fantastic" vodka. It's vodka with honey and hot peppers in it. I don't find it so fanastic and really tastes quite awful.

I was wondering if running it through my soon to be completed pot still would be enough to eliminate these off flavors? Or is this something best left to a reflux still and I shouldn't attempt it when I get the hang of things with the new still? I tried running a few shots through a carbon filter but that didn't seem to fix it.

Unless you have a whole bunch, I would just come up with a really good martini recipe and make the best of it. Maybe some pomegranate and fresh lime juices. Cheers, bd.

well, just finished running some vinegar and water through the new still. Maybe I should just use this chili honey vodka as a cleaning run. I tried it again with some OJ, still not good. Reminds me of a plastic taste. Not sure what would go well with chili in a martini.

You could mix it with some beer and drink it.
or if you want to go crazy, make a Christmas pudding with it.

Make Jell-O shots with it.
