Malt extract and how much?

Postby NZmush » Sun Dec 27, 2009 3:25 pm

Hey People,
I have some malt extract and was wondering how much pure malt to use per 20ltr batch and what sort of yeast to use?
and what would the vol roughly be after distilling it?
Reason for this is i have been using turbo yeast for years and the flavour is ....yuk. and was hoping that if i used malt, might make it smell and taste better.
I had some cider that didn't turn out very good, so distilled this and the spirits that came off this was really nice smelling.but much in the way of liters
I use a reflux system.
Thanks

for each LB. of Light DME. per gal= OG. of 1.044,,FG. of 1.011,,ABV =4.4
1 LB. of Light LME. per gal.= OG. of 1.033,,FG of 1.009,,abv= 3.6
should git you in the ball park. that is in US we have both us and metric don't know witch one you want.
if you use mectric. just replace thoes with 1/2 kg insted of LB and 4 litre insted of gal. it will be close .
(for our use any way)
and I use ale yeast in grain, some use distillers.
