Hi guys,

Hope this is useful information, might all ready be in another thread some place on forum. Been trying to locate both a hot water tank adapter kit (which is not easy if you live in Canada) as well been trying to find the correct half coupling in stainless steel for a good price verus using a copper half coupling in NPT thread type.

From my understanding, the thread on a hot water tank heater is 1" NPS (straight thread and not NPT or taper). At first could not find anything at Mcmaster but eventually stumbled upon what I require.

Tried copying the link, but for some reason that will not work with how McMaster online catlalog works, so here is the only way I can show how to get there

1.) Go to http://www.mcmaster.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow
2.) Search for this term, "Low-Pressure Stainless Steel Threaded Pipe Fittings ".
3.) You will see the following note :

"Type 316 stainless steel has a higher nickel content along with the addition of molybdenum to give it better resistance to corrosion than Type 304.
Connections: NPT, except locknuts which are NPSL (National Pipe Straight Locknut) and Type 316 stainless steel hex-socket plugs which are NPTF (Dryseal). Note: NPSL and NPTF threads are compatible with NPT threads."

Which from my understanding means this type of locknut will work with the threads on a hot water heater, as well the price for 316 SS is $5.76 and 304 SS is $5.22 which seems to be pretty good. As the only other place I found to get this from online is http://www.bargainfittings.com/index.ph ... duct_id=57" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow.

Going to order a couple locknuts that will be tig welded to SS keg along with buying couple normal 1" NPT half couplings for eventual drainage hose hook up for the keg.

Hopefully this helps someone else, as well hopefully the gurus can confirm this is correct. And like I said this might all ready be located on here some place else, if it is please delete this post.

Regards,
WCG

Hi, so this would work for the hot water tank...just want to make sure.

http://www1.mscdirect.com/CGI/NNSRIT?PM ... 4047Pmode=" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

Notice though that any half coupling either from mscdirect or mcmaster are in NPT and not straight thread.

Thanks Rad for another mfg. for the element kit adapter.

Decided last night to go ahead and order the S.S 1" locknuts as well a couple 1" half couplers from McMaster as the price seemed to be one of the best I could find.

As I live very close to Detroit area, think next time I go shopping over for some shopping with girlfriend I am bring a big ole list of things to look for at the US home hardware stores. lol.

Thanks for the help though guys.

(Sidenote, brother and I are going to try Rad14701's ALL BRAN recipe tommorow night with a little bit of Cluey's Canadian Wannabe suggestions. Plan on documenting this first run from start to finish as I am sure in a years time will look back and see how green I was, lol!!)

Thanks for links guys.

Actually tonight we will be doing the All Bran recipe, as for actual distilling at this time not yet SC. Just getting all our ducks in a row so we don't get to far ahead of ourselves.

Pretty close though, just waiting to get the s.s locknuts I ordered online to be welded to the keg for a boiler. As well doing it in a heated shed (wood stove), so in the process of clearing a nice workable space in the far corner designated for this new hobby!!!! Once that is done we are ready for a keg cleaning and vapour checks! Main thing is just getting organized and reading as much as possible before jumping the gun so to speak.

Will keep you posted for sure, the still you made for me is sitting downstairs right now besides the bar, thing is like a piece of art, and very antsy to run it!!!!!

Wcg If you use the electrical lock rings that you showed in the link here
They are not going to be water tight in any fashion
you will need to go with a plumbing fitting not that lock ring

Hope you see this in time to stop and reconsider before you spend any $$$ getting something welded

Coyote

I may stand corrected when I went back and looked those may work after all

Sorry

Hey coyote, thanks for the help. Did order them but have not had anything welded just yet.

Will see what they look like when they arrive, before proceeding farther.
