Affixing ferrules to columns

To avoid a lopsided column....how do you insure that the ferrule is affixed perfectly perpendicular to the column?

Good square cut for starters.

I soldered mine in with the column on a 45 degree angle and I tapped it in lightly with a small hammer while the solder was still in a liquid state. I also cut my pipe using a mitre saw so it was very square cuts. Be careful tapping a fitting with liquid solder, it will spatter and you don't want molten tin on your arms. You'll do just fine.

Use a square and a tape measure, or two squares if'n you got them. A purty good hand oughtta be able to eyeball it square. It will fit purty tight and solder won't make it draw like a weld does.

I have up on trying to make my builds perfect. It seems that its not in the books for mine to be perfect. Something always happens to screw it up. Like this last one. Just got it done installed the last sight glass. And it fell off the bench. Ugh. So I think from now on. When I get my builds done. I will just go ahead and whack it with a hammer. Just to get it out of the way.

If you check to see if your concrete floor is level you will see it isn't, then if you check your keg when it is sitting on the ground the chances are your keg won't sit flat and may move side to side and rock a little, then when you check the ferrule that is attached to the keg you will probably see it isn't square either :)

Once you get it all square move it over to the other side of the shed and start again :)
